Paragraph 1 (P1): Introduction

- Problem you want your career to solve

- Why the problem raises concern

- Why the problem needs to be solved

- Your career statement (may involve your aim to provide solution to the problem)

- Declare your intention to apply for a program

P2: Research
- Your research at undergrad and or post-baccalaureate
- Describe problem, approach, result, & significance of your research
- Highlight your role in the success of the research
- State how your research will influence your success in #gradschool

P3: Humble brags

Write about your achievements, these may include
- Involved task that you completed
- Competitions
- Scholarships
- Publications
- Other measurable results

NB: Make sure your mentions can support your application indeed

P4: Additional skill-based experience and your contribution to DEI

- Provide your successful teamwork experience

- Relevant teaching skills

- Public speaking skills

- Defendable soft skills

- Your SPECIFIC contribution to diversity, equity and inclusion

P5: Why the University? Why the program?

- The reputation of the program/school

- Feats of faculty members in academia

- Library holdings of the school

- Alumni network

- Student to faculty ratio

- Environment
Etc.

NB: You may state the PI you would love to work with.

P6: Conclusion

- Summarize problem in paragraph 1

- Reiterate the need to solve it

- How important is it for you to get the position

- Be optimistic in your show of appreciation
