So I ask myself, way past my bedtime: how many strikes and worker confrontations are going on this #Striketober, and will we see #Strikevember?

In no particular order... All the strikes I could find

(before dozing add moar!)
1. NY Taxi Workers holding strong for nearly a month.
2. Therapists are on the brink in Northern California and Hawaii.
3. #DeereStrike has been a sight to behold. 10k workers, it's the largest in years.
5. Kelloggs, theeeeeeeeeeyyyyy're NOT GREAT!

(But the strikers are)
6. Not a strike, but this picket against @legacyhealthsvc
is going down the next town over from me.

Management has prevented the union from entering the workplace, and intimidated workers who speak to union.
8. Kentucky Distillery workers issue #StepUpHH demand.

I have to watch the 3 hour "Bulletproof Mind" training by self-proclaimed "killology" expert, David Grossman as part of my research for a story.

Figure I'll make it interesting by threading up this man's brainworms for anyone who's interested.

For a primer, check out this short doc by @DoNotResistFilm put out by @fieldofvision in 2017

And for a deeper dive, listen to the @bastardspod episode on Grossman. I'll be referencing research from the host @IwriteOK in several of these tweets.

It's very weird for me, but I don't see any way around the fact that I need to figure out how to get booked on podcasts.

Primarily to amplify my stories and emphasize the larger issues they relate to.

But also, I want to open source my journey into #journalism.

Here's a 🧵
Obviously, I'm no seasoned journalist.

It's only been three weeks since I successfully pitched @ClevelandScene on my first investigative piece.

My experience does run a bit deeper than the past month, though.

For nearly two years I've produced, edited, and marketed @bzlistening.

Initially I just wanted to amplify all of the criminally overlooked grassroots musicians I've come to know, but it wasn't long until I started to bring on political guests.

Here's another article to file under #ShadyOrganizers.

Opportunists are looking to put themselves in front of this movement, and usually at the expense of those doing the Work, often deeply connected to the victims of police violence.

Good on Noor Hindi of @akrondevilstrip for digging into Shawn Mansfield. I've been tracking him for a while, but from a distance.

Earlier in the month I covered Brandon T Patterson, a different type of #ShadyOrganizer, in this @ClevelandScene piece.

bit.ly/2BjAQJ4
Brandon's shadiness was a different style than Shawn's, but functionally they are similar in how they pulled focus from and muddy the message being put out by more credible organizers.

Fans of the excellent podcast @bastardspod hosted by @IwriteOK sounded off on a post that asked:

"If you believe #ACAB, what happened in your life that led you to that belief?"

We need this kind of testimony at protests.

Here comes one brutal thread.
Cops joking about shooting black men as a way to get a year of vacation.

Witnessing Ferguson first-hand.

Seeing the panic of black children around police.
Cops being useless or harmful.

Cops cheering on the brutality of the WTO riots in Seattle.

Cops working for sex trafficking rings.

Eric Garner.

Blaming and ignoring rape victims.

#COVID19 is going to change everything in unimaginable ways in the months and years to come.

I no longer take seriously any predictions about election, including Biden's inevitability.

The best political work to do now is directly responding to this crisis.

1/10
This pandemic like a slow motion 9/11.

That event was like a gunshot wound. Localized and instantaneous. We reacted horrifically.

#COVID19 is like getting diagnosed with cancer.

2/
We haven't even begun to feel the full effects of it, we certainly haven't begun treatment, hell we aren't even fully diagnosed.

If we survive, we will be fundamentally different.

Will we react as horrifically?

My #NeverBiden rant and final response to #BlueNoMatterWho

Like 45% of the country I'm neither a democrat or a republican.

As a leftist, voting blue has been a necessary evil because we're held hostage by a two party system.

1/16
I have liberal friends who agree with that assessment, and then wag a finger at me and say "But Trump!"

I've heard that for the entirety of my voting life when criticizing Dems:

"But Bush!"
"But Bush!"
"But McCain!"
"But the Tea Party!"
"But Romney!"
"But Trump!"

Why is it those of us who are opposed to war, consider climate action to be inescapably urgent, and appalled by income inequality are always the ones who are asked to compromise?
