Here's a thread with highlights from Saturday's protest organized by @pslneohio, followed by some of my thoughts.

Dee McCall with @thefreedomBLOC opening:

"Everything right now that's happening, it seems like we're reading this book in 1965..." Next was Josiah Quarles with @TamirsCampaign who I've seen give a lot of powerful speeches at protests over the years. He's even more powerful when conversing 1:1 with people on the street.

Be proud of this man, Cleveland.

Thread:

Let's address the fearmongering talking point that real community oversight of police, such as what is proposed in #Issue24, would result in sizeable resignations of police.

This is an unambiguously good thing.

1/5
The most obvious benefit is ridding our city of police officers who feels more citizen oversight is a bad thing.

This antagonistic attitude towards civilian "meddling" is a part of the police culture that must be eradicated.

At 2pm today @CleCityCouncil is having an emergency resolution meeting, initiated by Brian Kazy of Ward 16, opposing #Issue24.

Issue 24 empowers true community oversight in Cleveland, including subpoena power, rather than leaving it to police and a subservient city government. Image This is the same council that joined the county in declaring racism a public health crisis last year.

Police abuse is the most obvious symptom of that sickness, and yet the council is refusing to make changes that could actually cure it.

So I ask myself, way past my bedtime: how many strikes and worker confrontations are going on this #Striketober, and will we see #Strikevember?

In no particular order... All the strikes I could find

I have to watch the 3 hour "Bulletproof Mind" training by self-proclaimed "killology" expert, David Grossman as part of my research for a story.

Figure I'll make it interesting by threading up this man's brainworms for anyone who's interested.

For a primer, check out this short doc by @DoNotResistFilm put out by @fieldofvision in 2017

It's very weird for me, but I don't see any way around the fact that I need to figure out how to get booked on podcasts.

Primarily to amplify my stories and emphasize the larger issues they relate to.

But also, I want to open source my journey into #journalism.

Here's a 🧵 Obviously, I'm no seasoned journalist.

It's only been three weeks since I successfully pitched @ClevelandScene on my first investigative piece.

My experience does run a bit deeper than the past month, though.

Here's another article to file under #ShadyOrganizers.

Opportunists are looking to put themselves in front of this movement, and usually at the expense of those doing the Work, often deeply connected to the victims of police violence.

thedevilstrip.com/akron-protest-… Good on Noor Hindi of @akrondevilstrip for digging into Shawn Mansfield. I've been tracking him for a while, but from a distance.

Earlier in the month I covered Brandon T Patterson, a different type of #ShadyOrganizer, in this @ClevelandScene piece.

Fans of the excellent podcast @bastardspod hosted by @IwriteOK sounded off on a post that asked:

"If you believe #ACAB, what happened in your life that led you to that belief?"

We need this kind of testimony at protests.

Here comes one brutal thread. Cops joking about shooting black men as a way to get a year of vacation.

Witnessing Ferguson first-hand.

Seeing the panic of black children around police.

#COVID19 is going to change everything in unimaginable ways in the months and years to come.

I no longer take seriously any predictions about election, including Biden's inevitability.

The best political work to do now is directly responding to this crisis.

1/10 This pandemic like a slow motion 9/11.

That event was like a gunshot wound. Localized and instantaneous. We reacted horrifically.

#COVID19 is like getting diagnosed with cancer.

My #NeverBiden rant and final response to #BlueNoMatterWho

Like 45% of the country I'm neither a democrat or a republican.

As a leftist, voting blue has been a necessary evil because we're held hostage by a two party system.

1/16 I have liberal friends who agree with that assessment, and then wag a finger at me and say "But Trump!"

I've heard that for the entirety of my voting life when criticizing Dems:

"But Bush!"
"But Bush!"
"But McCain!"
"But the Tea Party!"
"But Romney!"
"But Trump!"

Thinking about canvassing for Bernie vs Biden. Specifically what arguments I would be able to make for, and what arguments I would have to defend against with each of them.

I have a lot more concerns about Biden in this regard.

1/8

#BernieBeatsTrump I do not know how to defend much of Biden's voting record.

This is especially true w/NAFTA. Lots of voters in swing states didn't vote for Clinton because they won't forget that fact.

I don't know how to tell them not to be mad about that.

It's a cold Sunday afternoon, and I wanna talk a bit about my insights into the Pharmaceutical industry.

Specifically why I believe that the the corrupting influence of the profit motive in medicine is a problem that #M4A can really start to address.

1/22 My first peek behind the curtain was about 18 years ago. My roommate got his first job out of college as a sales rep for a drug I'll call Shmaritin.

He spent the next several weeks studying sales materials, and then one day, the delivery truck arrived.

It sure crept up fast, but today is the 50th episode of my podcast @bzlistening!

From now until the March 17th #OHPrimary, I'll be devoting the show to @BernieSanders and the #NotMeUs movement here in Cleveland.

Today, my journey into canvassing.

1/10

bzdug.com/podcast/not-bz… Initially, I thought I’d make this episode all about #MyBernieStory, how I first became aware of him, and what his platform means to me.

Instead, I decided I’d kick things off by talking about the my first weekend canvassing.
