good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are ABC 730 politics correspondent Laura Tingle, 9fax international editor Peter Hartcher and murdoch assistant economics editor Cameron Stewart. The interview is with Industry, Energy and Emissions minister Angus Taylor.
the Australian Way or climate con job? asks Speers. What does Scott Morrison want, skip? Well, he is on his way to Glasgow to “sell” [his pamphlet]. Speers describes the raging factional hatreds as the Coalition reaching a “fragile consensus”. #Insiders
“save the day”. Drink. The KPI set by Scott Morrison, which is for Scott Morrison to not be sacked by his colleagues, is quite something. The montage is dominated by clips of Scott Morrison mouthing Morrison government slogans. #Insiders
one blooper - a Coalition politician who I missed - accidentally saying the Coalition might act on climate in 2030. Absolutely not, she clarifies. They will definitely not do anything meaningful in the urgent, necessary timeframe. #Insiders
“save the planet”. Drink. #Insiders
a phone call is an achievement now. How low can the bar go? Don’t answer that. #Insiders
“let’s go to Rome now”. The minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions is there. We cross straight to Taylor, who greets the host of the flagship ABC politics show host as “Speersy” bless. #Insiders
we start with the cost [of transitioning to renewables and actually saving the planet for future generations]. Taylor happily takes this invitation to repeat a bunch of bullshit slogans. The Liberal Party obsession with lying about taxes gets an extended run #Insiders
you are using taxpayer dollars tho, says Speers. What is the total cost tho? I’ve answered your question, says Taylor. The answer, for the record, was the usual gumph about throwing our cash at unexisting technologies instead of investing in existing tech. #Insiders
lol the friendly Speersy routine evaporated quickly. On track reach targets clean hydrogen initiatives technology investment roadmap, says Taylor. No mention of ROI on their fantasy tech, oddly. #Insiders
on page 48 of our 128 page plan? Is that what he said? What a weirdo. Protesting too much, as males will. #Insiders
Taylor shifts to the wondrous results produced by “scatter” burning by Indigenous rangers. Worth noting that cool cultural burns are among if not *the* oldest known fire technology in the history of humanity. #Insiders
what we are seeing is very rapid growth of voluntary purchase of carbon credits, says Taylor. Incredible that the mechanism for which a proto-type was legislated by the minority Gillard government is global and works. #Insiders
governments don’t commit beyond the next decade, says Taylor, about his governments “2050 plan”. Speers points out the timeline contortions involved in this claim. #Insiders
now. CCS. If it works it is very expensive, says Speers. Who would pay for that? Santos is progressing very quickly on that at Moonbah, says Taylor. Speers asks if Taylor “would give them some taxpayer incentive”. Not asked: what is the current ROI on Santos donations. #Insiders
more argy bargy on the pretend future efficacy CCS. Taylor recites another slew of slogans. It is remarkable to think this man was awarded an academic scholarship to a prestigious university. He appears incapable of speaking in full sentences that carry meaning. #Insiders
so really it is a 2030 plan? Taylor pauses, spotting the trap. Well David it is a 2050 plan with a “pipeline of 2030 policies” that clean energy carbon capture storage low emissions technologies R&D, babbles Taylor. #Insiders
your position is at odds with business, internationally, with Matthias Cormann, says Speers. There will have to be some sort of price mechanism? Taylor repeats his [fossil fuel] costs up [renewables] costs down bullshit. This is a thing WHICH IS HAPPENING NOW. #Insiders
yes, Taylor has spoken to ex Liberal Party Finance Minister who voted to repeal the price on carbon there in Rome. A few mandate lies and it’s a wrap. #Insiders
let’s start on the policy of the plan, says Speers about a thing which has not changed in 10 years - the Coalition commitment to fossil fuel expansion and emissions increasing. It is junk policy, says Hartcher.
#Insiders
it is embarrassing, says Hartcher, citing Cannon-Brookes. It is only about announcements. About generating talking points for Liberal Party candidates in city seats. It is rebadged non-policy for the election campaign [paraphrased]. #Insiders
as Peter said, it’s a vacuous piece of nonsense says Tingle, of the Morrison government announcement with pamphlet. She says the Coalition have a “framework of things they fought and don’t believe in”. It is about not changing and not legislating, she says. #Insiders
reminder that Speers has been touting all week that Morrison has “achieved” not getting sacked by his colleagues, which is the reason Morrison will not even try to legislate any climate mitigation measures. #Insiders
what amount are we going to be on the hook for? says Tingle. That’s the amount [of public cash] the Liberals have promised the Nationals [candidates to buy votes]. Tingle repeats the actual global goal: stopping catastrophic warming that will end life as we know it. #Insiders
clip of Cormann on a carbon price. Hmm yes a fine line Matthias is walking there says Stewart of the self-serving careerist, a willing participant in destruction of functioning climate mitigation policy. #Insiders
[Morrison government emissions minister] Taylor is talking complete garbage, says Hartcher. They are promising everything and delivering nothing. They are “lucky” business and the states are acting [on climate change mitigation] he says of Morrison co-opting the credit #Insiders
what went on in the National Party? asks Speers. It is a redundant target, says Tingle. Various scenarios were played out. They were prepared to blow up the Coalition over this, she says. Joyce does not support [the huge handouts in regional seats he brokered]. #Insiders
in the regions in Queensland, is hypocrisy going to count more than the actual [announced] number? says Tingle. She says Qld LNP (Nats) might think they can campaign locally against the Morrison government announcement. #Insiders
there is no question the Nats are a huge drag [on the Coalition] says Stewart. So, on themselves then. Speers quickly shifts to Labor. We know Labor do not want to lose another election on this, says Speers, as tho media promotion of Morrison stunts has no influence. #Insiders
Labor has to decide if there is something other than climate to talk about, says Tingle. They were good at transition in the 80s, they had packages for steel workers, a lot of this depends on what happens in Glasgow, she subtly corrects Speers. #Insiders
we jump quickly away from these facts and go to self-appointed China expert instead. We know Xi Jinping will not be there says Hartcher. He says these international summits are big on promise and low on delivery. #Insiders
lol the Speers standard strikes again. At least a phone call happened unlike with China, he says of his man taking to Macron. Clip of Dutton saying politicians may be influenced by domestic politics! Due to an election due next April… *in France* #Insiders
clip of Biden, clip of Morrison, contradicting each other because Morrison says whatever suits his spin of the day. Tingle calls his unreconstructed inability to tell the truth “a classic Morrisonism”. #Insiders
HOLD THE FRONT PAGE. BEREJIKLIAN. Just the four full weeks to get there, #Insiders
audio grab of Berejiklian telling Maguire she will fix it, she spoke to Dom, told him to “put the 140 in the budget” and he does whatever she asks him to. #Insiders
this is not about vote buying (he calls corrupt spending of public money “pork barrelling”) but about public trust, says Speers. Hartcher agrees that *the public* are having our “worst suspicions confirmed” lol and claims Gladys is on trial and ICAC is on trial. #Insiders
fact check: Berejiklian is not on trial, and the NSW ICAC is not on trial. #Insiders
you would think [Maguires shady deals] should have rung some alarm bells, Speers puts to Tingle, who says it is “staggering” that politicians find our actual hospital system “because MPs jump up and down”. #Insiders
how is ICAC doing tho, says Speers, repeating the laughable self-important nonsense claim that “ICAC is on trial” to murdoch journo CameronStewart. #Insiders
ofc this invitation to spread misinformation about how public administration actually works and exonerate the fourth estate for its role in attacking oversight of politicians’ integrity is enthusiastically accepted. #Insiders
#FinalObservations 1 is Hartcher saying Australia has been dismal on supplying vax to developing countries and we have to drastically improve both for self-interest and those countries interests #Insiders
#FinalObservations 2 is Tingle saying carbon intensive industries and products and trade in same simply has to stop if we are to have any hope of preventing catastrophic irreversible global warming [paraphrased] #Insiders
#FinalObservations is a murdoch journo saying the Morrison government announcement this week that it wants to disenfranchise marginalised voters is bad [paraphrased] so with any luck… there goes that👍🏼#Insiders
this has been another edition of watching #Insiders so you don’t have to👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

FUND. Politicians funding actual hospitals based on personal proclivities and party political priorities was the point here [paraphrased - Laura Tingle is far more measured than I am].
thank you fact checkers. The blooper and clarification that the Morrison government definitely intends to not mitigate global warming in any way shape or form was former disgraced former minister and current Nationals leader in the Senate, Bridget McKenzie.

thoughts and prayers for Gladys Berejiklian’s memory today. May it return when a Liberal Party politician organises to give her an overpaid executive position on a silver platter🙏🏼
Berejiklian to her intimate partner, the MP for Wagga who stood down due to corruption investigations: I will throw money at Wagga don’t you worry about that. I can overrule [the executive].
Journalist: there may perhaps be a potential public perception of a conflict of interest.
but will unavoidable ABC everyman, head Liberal Party mopper upperer, the bloke whose editorialising is impossible for any ABC audience member to miss, judge Berejiklian’s position so irredeemable he dare not touch the story again this week. Such tuff [editorial] questions.

he is not legislating it because 1/ he can’t; and 2/ he doesn’t want to.

1. The government does not have the numbers to legislate their re-announced existing inadequate target because of all the Coalition climate denialists.

2. Morrison is leader of the denialist factions.
when ousted former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull tried to legislate a target, and despite being cheered on by the press gallery, he failed. He was then taken out by the climate denialists in the Liberal Party room, led by Scott Morrison.
Abbott also mobilised climate denialists in the Liberal Party room to oust Malcolm Turnbull, in 2009. He then repealed the legislated Labor emissions reduction policy, a policy which lowered emissions. It is an existing Abbott era target that Morrison re-announced yesterday.

no we didn’t. Scott Morrison announced an unlegislated target and asked assembled journalists to tell voters he has a plan. The media, collectively, complied. This entire exercise is election campaign comms and its sole purpose has already been achieved.
Morrison will now tick “announce target” off his to-do list and move on, irregardless of a few serious climate policy journalists crying into their cups. That’s politics mate, he will say. All politics is local. He does not care about the human cost, not yours, not ours.
he is a crash or crash through megalomaniac with messiah complex and painting him as having subtlety or nuance is self-serving first-order bullshit. Cosying up to him failed. Todays announcement is another policy failure. All press coverage of Morrison is catastrophically wrong.

“the Labor Party has a plan to legislate” - prime minister Scott Morrison on the federal opposition.
this pilot election campaign launch is “a whole of ecanomy plan”. Sounds like Liberal Party polling is showing that their economic management lies still, despite all evidence to the contrary, are believed. Thanks, corporate media.
we’re gunna chieve [bodgy targets set by land-clearing accounting tricks]!! shouts Morrison. Today is about the plan, we’ll release the modelling later, he says.

🔮Morrison takes an unlegislated target to Glasgow. Coalition climate policy remains coal expansion. Coalition politicians use public money to buy votes for their candidates. Not news. This is business as usual.
oh and entire press gallery obediently and uncritically amplify and legitimise this latest federal Coalition election campaign strategy. Also not new.
he can take a bowl of word salad to Scotland with or without the Nationals. Giving public money to client donors and local vested interests is not climate mitigation.
