Manua is a director and actor based in France, working mainly with the drama company Golden Bastards. Before I became involved in theatre, I studied biology at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse. I also worked at COP21 as team leader for the United Nations in press conferences.
In 2019, I worked with Association Ishpingo in Ecuador on a reforestation project. During the past four years, I have been an activist with Extinction Rebellion and Alternatiba group, and I am now trying to create a bridge between performance art and ecological activism.
Why I’m acting: I wanted to join Scientist Rebellion for this action because I am gravely concerned about biodiversity breakdown. In fifty years, 68% of wild vertebrate animals have died out. I can’t sit on my hands and do nothing.
🧵This morning #ScientistRebellion occupied King George V Bridge in Glasgow! #COP26 has failed, and the people must go into civil resistance! As scientists we feel that we must support those struggling to have their voices heard. 🧵
If you want to know more about our background and why academic researchers feel the need to occupy a bridge at #COP26 and spend Saturday evening in custody, read our personal statements. For example Mila's:
"I'm Dan - a classically trained folk violinist from Brighton, currently in the midst of a six year tour of six continents without flying, funded by collaborations and street performances during my travels." (1/4)
"Building on my Master's studies in Music Psychology, I am trying to better understand the effect that both music & climate change can have on people across the globe." (2/4)
"Through my articles and social media, I attempt to present an alternative and ethically informed lifestyle, driven by the power of music, human connections and "eco-travel" - by train, sailboat, hitchhiking, & bicycle (no commercial flights!)" (3/4)
Whilst the science has been clear for decades, a rational and appropriate response from our governments has been lacking.
New research has now demonstrated how powerful established economic powers have weaponized policy inaction and garnered undue inside support to lock an unjust system into its destructive ways.
