According to our lawsuit, in one training, Springfield Public Schools' teachers were instructed to consult an "oppression matrix" and determine where they fall on that matrix. #CRT

Additionally, at other trainings, Springfield Public Schools' teachers were presented with two images that classify “education funding from property tax" as "covert white supremacy," among other examples. #CRT
In a December 2020 report, the Springfield Public reported that it required senior leaders to participate in a one-day training from the Facing Racism Institute. #CRT
According to Springfield Public Schools one of the Facing Racism Institute’s training objectives is to “introduce the components of #CriticalRaceTheory from educational research with applications to the district…” #CRT
More than 3500 staff members participated in the mandatory training. #CRT
Attendees were presented with an “Oppression Matrix” which identified as “Privileged Social Groups” all “white people,” “male assigned at birth,” “Protestants,” “heterosexuals,” and even “adults,” among others. #CRT
The presentation included a discussion of “White Supremacy” which is described as a “culture which positions white people as all associated with “whiteness” as ideal. #CRT
The presentation contained examples of “Covert Supremacy” to include “education funding from property tax,” “calling the police on black people,” “White Silence,” and “All Lives Matter.” #CRT
In a separate presentation, examples also included “Make America Great Again,” and the “celebration of Columbus Day.” #CRT #MAGA
In another training SPS identified additional racist statements such as “people are just people, I don’t see color,” & “America is the land of opportunity, built by rugged individuals, where anyone with grit can succeed if they just pull up hard enough on their bootstraps” #CRT
It also identified “color blindness” as covert white supremacy — a reminder MLK said “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” #CRT
The Springfield Public Schools’ Chief Equity and Diversity Officer has claimed the need for social justice in K-12 education is as great today or greater than in times of legal segregation. #CRT #CriticalRaceTheory
After apparently hearing from parents at school board meetings, Springfield Public Schools began restricting public comments at meetings to only the first 10 people to register. #CRT #CriticalRaceTheory
Following the public uproar about the mandatory staff equity training, Springfield Public Schools announced the materials would no longer be available to the public. #CRT #CriticalRaceTheory
In an interview following that decision, the superintendent explained that the district would simply, “message what we are doing by sharing that at our school board meeting.” #CRT
When we requested records relating to Critical Race Theory and so-called "antiracism" teachings, Springfield Public Schools provided a fee estimate that demanded an initial deposit of $37,000.
