High level summary ya President Ramaphosa:

People who are showing covid-19 symptoms should still get tested.

Early detection of #omicron means that we’re better equipped to respond

There’s an increase in Covid-19 cases
The proportion of covid-19 tests that are positive has risen sharply in a short space of time.

If cases continues to climb, we could enter a #4thWave and this coincides with what the scientists have said.
We know enough about the #Omicron variant and the 1st thing is for people to vaccinate

Vaccines do work & saves lives.

Tonight I’d like to call on every person who hasn’t vaccinated to vaccinate
Vaccination is by far the most important way to protect yourself against the #OmicronVarariant & also could help us return to the normal economy.

By getting vaccination, we’re also reducing the pressure on our health care system
South Africa like other countries is looking at #BoosterShots & a staged introduction of this is being considered.

There are considerations of making vaccinations a condition of access to certain places such as work etc
Government has set up a task team to undertake consultations to make vaccines compulsory.

We realise that this is an extreme measure but if we don’t do this, we will be vulnerable.

Some companies have made vaccinations mandatory
I’d like the consultation to be engaged in and that we treat the #OmicronVariant seriously.

Continue wearing masks & also try as much as possible to be outdoors when meeting people

In taxis, buses etc, open windows
We need to avoid indoor gatherings especially those that require large people.

Matric dances/raves should be monitored.

Where gatherings take place, covid protocols must be adhered to.

Country to remain under level 1.
Whilst we’re in Level 1, we should continue taking precautionary measures.

Curfew still applicable from midnight till 04:00

The venue restrictions is still in place.

Sale of alcohol is still permitted in line with the regulations in place.
We’re going to make sure that our hospitals are ready for the #4thWave

We’re also working to ensure that oxygen supplies are available.

We’re deeply disappointed by countries to prohibit travel from SA.
Countries that have imposed travel restrictions against SA is discriminatory & goes against science.

Prohibitions/bans impact economies.

Countries that have imposed bans should uplift these
Vaccines are safe & they save lives.

Wear masks, wash hands, socially distance.

We shouldn’t panic!

We have to live with this pandemic & we will endure & overcome.

May God Bless SA & Protect Her People

Some high level takeaways from defensive driving course I attended earlier today.

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are days in which hijackings are on the rise.

Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays are days when orders are placed.

Remain vigilant always!
8%of hijackings occur in traffic lights

5% Other intersections

51% in front of private residences

13% at petrol stations

~ 2020 crime stats summarised.

Remain vigilant, always
Don’t pull in and park in front of your gate.

Have emergency response numbers such as armed response on speed dial.

In case you’re followed, head to a police station, petrol station or a public space that’s well lit.
