1/ 5.5 million people died of COVID-19 under @DrTrdros's watch. The fall from grace of the @WHO under #TedrosTheTerrible might have caught many people by surprise but not many #Ethiopians.
2/ Ethiopian health professionals gasped in disbelief when @DrTedros was elected to lead @WHO in May 2017. A man who grossly mismanaged three Cholera epidemics getting elected to manage the World Health Organization; what could possibly go wrong?🤔
3/ In October 2005, @DrTedros was appointed as the first non-MD Minister of Health in #Ethiopia. His only qualification to hold the post was him being a member of the Central Committee of the #TPLF.
4/ His so-called 'big achievements' metamorphose into something sinister when you take a closer look. For example, the fertility rate in #Amhara region declined an incredible 25.5% over a period of 11 years, from 5.9 in 2000 to 4.2 in 2011. …researchandpractice.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
#TedrosTheTerrible and co. coerced #Amhara farmers by withholding fertilizer and seed from households whose women declined to get of long acting contraceptives. This was a preemptive depopulation concocted and perpetrated by the smooth talking darling of the west.
5/ #TedrosTheTerrible's flagship program was the deployment of 30,000 health extension workers ostensibly working to make health care 'universally accessible.'
However, in reality the Health Extension Program was an instrument of propaganda & coercion for the EPRDF. Instead of vaccines, the HEWs distributed government leaflets. Instead of health education they went house to house preaching the gospel of Revolutionary Democracy.
6/ The man who would like you to believe he is an astute defender of human rights was actually the architect of a repressive system that illegally withheld the degrees and certificates of MDs for over a decade.
7/ By the time he left in 2012, the ministry was a wasteland of corruption, with the health system run by incompetent TPLF cadres.
#TedrosTheTerrible's strategy of 'flooding' medical schools beyond their capacity inevitably broke the system; making Ethiopia one of the top 10 countries with the lowest doctor to patient ratio while boasting thousands of unemployed MDs. Go figure!
8/ Under his tutelage, we saw the @WHO transform before our eyes into the procurement, propaganda and lobbying arm of the #TPLF. Communication devices procured under the name of the @WHO were used to unleash mayhem on #Amhara and #Afar civilians.
9/ The global health crowd, the likes of @mukeshkapila whose career and livelihoods depend on the goodwill of the DG are already working indefatigably to further his agenda. Even @TheLancet has managed to sink to the level of #TedrosTheTerrible!
10/ And now, with a possible change of heart from USG, #TedrosTheTerrible is undergoing a meltdown of sorts. He has divested himself of the last remaining restraints of decorum and dignity & is now using the bully pulpit of the DG of the @WHO as the propaganda desk of the TPLF.
The days of cryptic tweets are gone. (Remember #TedrosTheTerrible tweeting 'Pride.' When the TPLF entered Mekele?) The DG of the @WHO has declared an all out war against #Ethiopia.
11/ Over the past 12 months he has tweeted dozens of times about #Tigray. The number of times he tweeted about the war in #Amhara and #Afar? Once! The number of times he tweeted about the 2000+ health facilities destroyed by the #TPLF in #Amhara and #Afar? A big fat ZERO!
The number of health facilities destroyed because of the war in Ethiopia according to the Surveillance System of the @WHO? Another big fat ZERO!
12/ The blatant abuse of the office of by @DrTedros & the complicity of the @UN in this debacle is one for the history books! The lack of courage & integrity from @antonioguterres to safeguard the much vaunted neutrality of the @UN isn't only disgraceful but also dangerous.
13/ The world needs to understand what @DrTedros is advocating for is not peace. He is advocating for his old pals to get one more shot to try and get back to power on the back of prepubescent boys and girls.
Thread #HopingAgainstHope: Panafricanism and the fight for Southern Rhodesia [Zimbabwe]
1/ Between 1970-73, the UK & US vetoed 5 resolutions against white minority dictatorship in S. Rhodesia. The proceedings of the UNSC meeting are eerily reminiscent of our current situation.
2/ In 1972, OAU held a meeting in Addis opened by HIM Hailesselassie to strategize further with regard to the situation in S. Rhodesia & the role of the UN. In 1973, a UNSC resolution was tabled by Kenya & Guinea calling for action against the illegal white minority gov't of SR.
3/ Odero-Jowi, representing Kenya gave a very elegant and moving speech against this debacle and rebuked the members of the UNSC[UN & UK] that consistently stop resolutions against the white minority govt of SR through what he aptly called "velvet vetoes."
1/ Taking the conflict in N. Ethiopia as an opportunity, #African and #Ethiopian elites who despise #Ethiopia and #panafricanism have come out of the woodwork in droves.
2/ These are people who grew up convinced that it was a great miscarriage of justice that they were born black. Deep inside they keep thinking they should have been born white. The injustice of it all!
2/ They spend their whole lives chasing after the illusory dream of being as light skinned as possible. They work hard, they cajole and beg and suck up to their bosses. They even pray! And yet, they wake up every day bound in that black skin.
1/ In their report released on Dec 9, @hrw detailed atrocities perpetrated by #TPLF in #Chennai and #Kobo, between Aug 31 and Sept 9.
The findings of the report are chilling and makes you shudder thinking of what must have happened in areas held by #TPLF for several months.
2/ Yet the report raises more questions than it answers.
What about the 90 days since Sept 9? Why conduct the reports remotely, despite at least some areas being free for 3 months? Why release the report now as #TPLF occupation is ending & more atrocities are coming to light?
Given what has been happening to pro-Ethiopian and pro-Eritrean voices on @Twitter, I have decided to write my #TwitterWill while I am still around.
1/ Compared with how things were on twitter a year back, we are at a much better place. We are scrutinizing every sentence of every article and tweet and every from of every video. The whole twitter is full of Ethiopian and Eritrean eyes and people are feeling the heat!
2/ The #NoMore movement that started out as a hash tag has evolved into a movement, nay an African REVOLUTION! It has become too real for the powers to be! The oppressed are waking up and the oppressors are panicking and scheming.
1/ This letter is not addressed to Ethiopians. Eleni is clearly more distressed about the prospect of losing her job than the prospect of being tried for treason.
That's the reason for her emphasizing that she attended the meeting in her 'personal capacity.' IMO this is equivalent to Bill Clinton claiming his affair with Monica Lewinsky was in his personal capacity!
2/ “Its also an honor to ... encourage him [Berhane] in what he is doing.” What exactly are you encouraging him about here? His role as 'TDF's representative in the N. hemisphere' or his leadership of the gang of 9 that vowed to 'dismantle' the current elected government?
2/ True to form, it is looking very likely that as predicted the TPLF-TMH-Nima hub has been working on producing a sequel. The stage is already set and the wheels are in motion. Nima/Berhe or someone from @CNN or another outlet will be directing the show.
3/ In the next few days Nima/Berhe and co. will be introducing their play in print and on TV. Unfortunately, I am afraid that some of my predictions might be coming true.
