Today I asked Premier @jjhorgan and Minister @AdrianDix if they acknowledge that #COVID19 is an airborne virus. The Premier did not stand to answer.

Minister Dix said this gov’t follows the “science” but not once said the words “COVID-19 is airborne”. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
We need to restore that crucial confidence in public health guidance and democracy. To do that, governments must be able to acknowledge mistakes and be willing to improve. 2/ #bcpoli #COVID19 #COVID19BC
Patients, healthcare workers, teachers, and others are not being provided a critical tool to protect themselves against an airborne virus: an N95 mask. Nurses have filed a human rights complaint for being denied access to N95s their workplace. 3/ #bcpoli
cbc.ca/news/canada/br…
This government has refused to give rapid tests to the public, has failed to accurately slow the spread of this virus, and has rejected credible science from the @WHO that #COVID19 is airborne. 4/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
Yesterday BC Children’s Hospital argued that #COVID19 is not airborne on Twitter – a message too often coming from Health Authorities in this province, and adding to the confusion people are feeling. 5/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
It is worrying to see this gov’t refuse to acknowledge that #COVID19 is airborne and have no justification for being out of line with the scientific consensus. Now more than ever, we need a gov't that the public can feel confident about. We are not there. 6/6 #bcpoli #COVID19BC

2,224 people died from toxic drugs in BC last year. Breaking the record of deaths in a single year due to the toxic drug supply.

It is more per year than the #COVID19 pandemic, and yet there are no daily announcements on the impact of this public health emergency. 1/ #bcpoli
This gov't applauded itself yesterday for the work it has done to introduce safe supply and request federal decriminalization. But the truth is that this government’s measures have not reduced deaths - in fact, they are increasing. 2/ #bcpoli #safesupply
When concerned citizens take it upon themselves to hand out safe drugs on the streets of the Downtown Eastside, it is clear that this government is failing. 3/ #bcpoli #safesupply

Today’s throne speech rightfully acknowledged the sacrifices and loss that British Columbians have faced over the last year - but, instead of offering a vision for the future, the gov't patted themselves on the back for past initiatives and re-announced projects. 1/ #bcpoli
Solving the overlapping crises that British Columbians are facing will require a level of honesty that we are yet to see. What we need to see is humility and transparency from this government. A hopeful vision for the future must be grounded in truth 2/ #bcpoli
We are heartened that inequality and climate change will be the focus of this year’s budget, as they were glaring omissions from previous budgets. Moving forward, it is important to remember that climate delay is the new climate denial. 3/ #bcpoli #ClimateChange

On their #COVID19 policies this gov't likes to say “we follow the science."

But our policies are not based on the raw data, they are based on the values viewed as important by gov't & used to interpret the science.

Today I want to talk about those values. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
Yesterday the BCCDC updated their guidelines to say that public health is balancing preventing illness and going to work & socializing.

That is the crux of the growing frustration we're seeing. Increasingly the @bcndp are choosing to value work over people. /2 #bcpoli #COVIDBC
This has been done under the guise of ensuring we “rebuild” our economy - and there lies the misunderstanding. @jjhorgan himself said in a not too distant past “People are the economy of BC.” 3/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC

We need clarity, not confusion, from the @bcndp.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to understand what informs #COVID19 decision-making in BC. Our healthcare system is struggling, health care workers are burning out, & patients’ needs are not being met. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
Clear communication must be coupled with access to the tools that reduce transmission, including access to PPE and N95s, rapid tests, and the data and research that inform decisions - this needs to be a priority for the gov’t. 2/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC
Continually blindsiding businesses shows a disregard for how challenging the last 2 years have been for the over 1 million people employed by small businesses. After so much turmoil they need as much stability & certainty as gov't can provide. 3/ #bcpoli #BCbusiness #COVID19BC

Today the @IEA released their 2021 World Energy Outlook. For the 1st time it included a scenario where the 1.5ºC climate targets are actually met.

TL;DR - @bcndp must choose between meeting net-zero pledges or expanding fossil fuels. Not both. 1/ #bcpoli
iea.org/reports/world-…
The implications of this report are significant for every gov’t in the world, but here in BC and Canada where we have governments pledging to meet net-zero targets whilst still investing in fossil fuels the report is particularly damning. 2/ #bcpoli
Achieving a 1.5ºC net-zero means no new fossil fuels. Not just because we wouldn’t meet net-zero but because achieving it means demand for fossil fuels falls drastically, making all gov’t backed projects like CGL or TMX economically unviable. 3/ #bcpoli

We’ve been told that public health orders are made by the experts, particularly the PHO. Mask mandates were implemented through a health order, like we saw expanded to >5s today. But now vaccine mandates are left to 60 individual school districts. 1/ #bcpoli #bced
The patchwork system leaves room for vulnerability, and places the onus on each school district for public health decisions and respecting staff privacy. The @bctf has said this is the wrong approach. 2/ #bcpoli #bced
We know how the Delta variant plays out in areas of high vs low vaccination across BC. We are seeing our children infected, & the risks of long-COVID on their development are serious. Every person should be equally protected by gov’t, regardless of where they live. 3/ #bcpoli
