AL Basham, the teacher of #RomilaThapar writes about India after talking of Inequality by birth:

"(...) Yet our overall impression is that in no other part of the ancient world were the relations of man and man, and of man and the state, so fair and humane. (...)"
He further showers glory to India saying:

"In no other early civilisation were slaves so few in number, and in no other ancient lawbook are their rights so well protected as in the Arthasastra."
Then he says, "No other ancient lawgiver proclaimed such noble ideals of fair play in battle as did Manu."

Imagine that the Teacher of #RomilaThapar is praising Manu for giving best world ideals of ancient times.
He further goes on to say, "In all her history of warfare Hindu India has few tales to tell of cities put to the sword or of the massacre of non-combatants (…)"
"There was sporadic cruelty and oppression no doubt, but, in comparison with conditions in other early cultures, it was mild. To us the most striking feature of ancient Indian civilisation is its humanity.”

All taken from this lovely book archive.org/details/TheWon…
So in AL Basham's analysis and opinion Hindu Civilization was one of the best of ancient times.

Bharat was advanced and great!

1/n Who are we?

So audacious, appearing immortals, chanting the same Vaidik Ruchas composed millenniums back on the banks of #Saraswati, #Sindhu & many #Sindhus till today.

The Hindus(inhabitants of land beyond Sindhu), followers of Dharma, ie Sanatana, long way we have come.
2/n I always say that it impossible to give a date to Sanatana Dharma.

We need to decode both the words to understand meaning wisely.

Sanatana refers to "imperishable" & "eternal." (refer Śivapurāṇa 2.2.16, 2.2.42)
3/n What does word Sanātanī signify?

Often it signifies the duties which takeaway thoughts from the #Vedas, #Upanishads, #Puranas #Itihasas Bhagavad Gita etc.

Now, question arises that why they are Sanātan, & why no other thoughts?

1/n Thread
#Antisemitism of #USSR
Remember, once Nehru & his followers celebrated #USSR & followed it. Same followers are today throwing mud on #Netaji for alliance with Axis Powers.

Let's begin with 1919, when #Lenin brought rules of #Ukraine
2/n Two sources tell us that #Lenin said as below:

"#Jews and city dwellers on the Ukraine must be taken by hedgehog-skin gauntlets (ruled by iron fist) sent to fight on front lines and should never be allowed on any administrative positions."
3/n The sources for it are as below:
1)Time of Darkness - lit. "Dusk" by A. N. Yakovlev
2)The Unknown Lenin: From the Secret Archive, Edited by Richard Pipes

Although in public speeches, #Lenin always spoke against #Antisemitism

#Aurobindo on #Gandhi:
June 22, 1926
1. "For instance Gandhi is a European-truly, a Russian Christian in an Indian body. And there are some Indians in European bodies! Gandhi a European!"
He is largely influenced by Tolstoy, the Bible, and has a strong Jain tinge in his teachings; at any rate more than by the Indian scriptures-the Upanishads or the Gita, which he interprets in the light of his own ideas.
Many educated Indians consider him a spiritual man. Yes, because the Europeans call spiritual. But what he preaches is not Indian spirituality but something derived from Russian Christianity, non-violence, suffering, etc (…)"

Which books of Aurobindo have you read so far?

"Sri Aurobindo is one of the greatest thinkers of Modern India … the most complete synthesis achieved upto the present between the genius of the West and the East..."

-Romain Rolland

I'm sure you know who Rolland is Keshav
More on Aurobindo @keshavbedi from "Review of Collected Poems and Plays in the Times Literary Supplement (London) (July 8,1944)

"Of all modern Indian writers Aurobindo — successively poet, critic, scholar, thinker, nationalist, humanist — is the most significant and perhaps
the most interesting … In fact, he is a new type of thinker, one who combines in his vision the alacrity of the West with the illumination of the East. To study his writings is to enlarge the boundaries of one's knowledge …

#Netaji was clear that #Communism 'll not be adopted in India. He states:

A) Communism today has no sympathy with Nationalism in any form & the Indian movement is a Nationalist movement –a movement for the national liberation of the Indian people.
B) Russia is now on her defensive and has little interest in provoking a world revolution though the Communist International may still endeavor to keep up appearances.
The recent pact between Russia and other capitalist countries and the written or unwritten conditions inherent in such pacts, as also her membership of the League of Nations, have seriously compromised the position of Russia as a revolutionary power.

1/n #SadarPranam to Ishvara within you @quizzicalguy !

It was fun reading this hilarious thread by you centered on displaced views about #Netaji & how so called Indian Right looks at him.

This thread has point wise rebuttal. Do respond should you have enough substance.
2/n Firstly, you must know that even once Savarkar wrote lullabies in name of Hindu-Muslim unity, only to latter turn into whom you might call "Hindu Communalist."

Who knows had #Netaji seen the phase of #DirectActionDay, how would he have behaved?
3/n Dear @quizzicalguy , I don't know if you know it or not but once SR Goel whom too you might dismiss as Hindu Communalist stood being a Gandhian & Communist only to change opinion after he had to save his life during #DirectActionDay
