Q!

Why take away city powers over health bylaws?

Kenney says public health is a provincial responsibly.

Adds they've shown flexibility during pandemic for munis- but worried about patchwork policy creating division and confusion.
Kenney adds that there is no compelling public rationale for ongoing bylaw.

Adds that if cities have the power to implement their own health measures, it could become a political issue.
Why get rid of masking mandate?

Kenney says best solution remains vaccines - worried about being below average for booster shots nationally.

Adds masks make many people uncomfortable and that Omicron is so transmissible and we have to be realistic.
What's your message to those worried about Step 2 changes?

Kenney says people are free to make their own choices- if they want to wear masks or stay home, they can make that decision.

Adds the vast majority of Albertans want to move on, and we can do so safely.
Kenney says it is not good to live in a state of fear.

To those promoting non-stop message of fear- Kenney says there were times we were afraid of running out of hospital beds.

But says to promote fear now is irrational and will accelerate mental health crisis.
Are you giving AHS a direction to remove vax mandate?

Kenney says they've asked AHS to present options on vax mandate- adds there is no longer meaningful difference for transmission and infection among vaxxed/unvaxxed.
Kenney adds that there are issues in rural areas that have been impacted as a result of the AHS vax mandate
Health Minister Copping says they are maintaining some PCR testing capacity but will not be expanding it back up.
Why change Municipal Gov Act instead of just one specific order on masks?

Kenney says legal advice finds changing the act is the only way to end the issue.

Adds act doesn't allow province to prevent municipalities from doing so at the moment.
What will impact of Russia invasion be on NA energy policy?

Kenney says getting pipelines built to get responsibly produced energy is in the world's best interest- adding its about peace and security.

Adds pipelines in Canada are a moral cause.
Kenney says he's heard of barrel bombs being apparently being dropped on Ukrainians.

Adds that could be said Saudis doing the same to Yemenis, or Syrians doing the same.
Kenney says he will travel to Houston to speak at the largest oil and gas conference next week.

He will also be speaking with US leaders on this issue ahead of that conference.
Kenney says he appreciates the measures taken by Prime Minister Trudeau for Ukraine- but says the most powerful thing Canada can do is make it a national cause to get LNG to the coasts and revive Energy East.
Have you looked into Russian investment in Canadian oil companies, etc?

Kenney says AIMCO found $159M in exposure to Russian securities, and that AIMCO will liquidate those holdings.

As for other investments, says he called on feds to freeze questionable Russian assets.
Isn't coming down on Edmonton to ban masks being political on your part?

Kenney says no, they've been patient over past two years, and public expects clarity.

Adds doing this removes "virtue-signalling exercise" from council.
Kenney says front-line workers are impacted having to navigate disputes from public - another reason for removing power of municipalities to enact their own mask mandates.
Are you showing a lack of respect by taking Edmonton's right to have a mask mandate?

Kenney says they are respecting choice- but adds that it's Edmonton that's not respecting choice of people to not wear masks.
