Doug Ford & the @OntarioPCParty have been a disaster for #Ontario since day 1. Between now & election day, @fordnation & his lackeys will try to make you forget the harms they've done.
I hope this thread will help you remember some of it when you get to the polls.
.@fordnation's move to privatize healthcare by rushing the massive “People’s Health Care Act” through legislature without any meaningful consultation, received wide-spread condemnation from medical professional across the province.
The PHCA has proven to be a nightmare for hospitals and long-term care, and although they have tried to steer the messaging away from privatization, little has changed in their actions as they move to create a two-tiered healthcare system in Ontario.
And in spite of @fordnation & @celliottability's promise to “end hallway medicine”, hospital admission times balloon to 18+ hours from triage to bed. Yikes.
Also they froze funding for ambulances. Yes, ambulances.
They cut funding for stem cell research from the Ontario Institute for Regenerative Medicine. De-listed procedures from OHIP, went to war with optometrists, cut funding for telemedicine & put overall healthcare funding below the rate of inflation.
And then to cover their butts, and the butts of their shareholder cronies, they made it nearly impossible for families to seek legal recourse in the mistreatment of family members in long-term care homes. cp24.com/news/ford-defe…
Ontario's long-term care system was completely unprepared for the pandemic. The CAF report would reveal horrific conditions with families calling it a "national atrocity"
Oh, and they passed a law protecting their friends from any legal action.
.@fordnation's response to the COVID-19 pandemic worst in Canada. Ontario students out of school more days than anywhere in North America. Muzzling Science Table. Hoarded rapid tests. Ignored hotspots. LTC deaths. Flip flop lockdowns/mandates;
.@fordnation completely ignored the mercury poisoning crisis in Grassy Narrows First Nation, and instead plowed ahead with further extraction activities in the area.
They also slashed funds for First Nation natural resources and wildlife protection by 75% thestar.com/politics/provi…
They cut funding for curriculum recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
They also cut $10 Million from the Indigenous culture Fund.
But don't worry, they wear orange shirts sometimes.
They cut funding for 3500 full time teaching jobs, clawing back $850m from schools and blowing up class sizes immediately preceding the COVID-19 Pandemic. Under @Fordnation plan, total projected education cuts will exceed $12 Billion over 10 years.
Cut $20 Million from women’s shelters & victims of violence; Cut the Transition Child Benefit for low-income families; Cut Ontario Library Service funding by 50%; Cut funding for safe injection sites; Lost $42 Million selling Cannabis...
Defunded Midwives; Cuts 2 Flood Management System; Cancelled Basic Income Project; Eliminated rent controls 4 new buildings; Ministry Mandate Letters; Gas stickers; License plates; $1B Beer Store bungle; $231m Windmill debacle; Government run by mid-20s Lacrosse Bros staffers.
Cut $50m support 4 child care centres; Delayed federal childcare plan; Cancelled 50m Tree Program; Highway over the greenbelt after sketchy dealings with developer friends; Increased minimum wage by 10 cents; notwithstanding clause; MPPs got huge raises; Massive cuts to ODSP & OW
Terminated measure of homelessness; Cost taxpayers $1 Billion while cancelling the cap&trade program; Passed legislation to protect government from legal accountability including retrospectively dismissing cases it already lost. cbc.ca/radio/asithapp…
Unbelievably, there is so much more that I couldn't fit in this thread.
If somehow after reading these you still support @fordnation & the @OntarioPCParty, you need to look inward, give your head a shake & try to be a better human being.
The mining corps made a fortune, didn't pay taxes, and left 21m tonnes of toxic tailings behind; buried on play grounds, under houses, and in the water supply.
THREAD 1/ In May @fordnation claimed that 1500-1800 kids would receive childhood budgets each month, with the OAP waitlist completely cleared within an 18-month period.
On Nov 20 @ToddSmithPC said this plan will continue until the new program is in place.
2/ By those numbers between 11,200-12,600 children should have received the wasteful Childhood Budget by now. Instead, only 2,274 have received a cheque in the mail, which will only pay for a tiny fraction of the costs of evidence-based therapies. Big savings for @OntarioPCParty!
3/ A survey of 279 Ontario families reveals that the vast majority have not received a budget (funding) or even the application to apply for a budget a full 18 months after @fordnation took the reins of the Ontario Autism Program.
