I've been reading about the 1905 clashes between Armenians & Azerbaijanis, the first known inter-ethnic confrontation between the two, and reaffirmed my conviction that the disagreements & subsequent #Armenia-#Azerbaijan wars are the product of the 'divide et impera' policy 1/10
One of the reasons that triggered the bloody events was the underrepresentation of the Muslim population in local city councils. Although the Muslim population of #Baku accounted for around 80% of the electorate, they were entitled to less than a third of the seats. 2/10
Without a significant #Russia'n population in the region, Russians chose to rely on #Armenia'ns as Christians, promoting them to administrative roles. After a while though, seeing the rise of national sentiments among them, they did the contrary, this time betting on Muslims 3/10
"The chief of the police, accompanied by 50 Cossacks, rode on horseback through the burning city, without interfering in what was happening. The Cossacks handed over the Armenians for reprisals to Muslim persecutors. At the same time, Turkic workers were given rifles 4/10
and revolvers at the police station taking their passports as a bail" (V.Makarenko). According to Firuz Kazemzadeh, the #Dashnaktsutyun, as a party, bears most of the responsibility, as it has often been the leading force in the perpetration of massacres 5/10
"The #Dashnaks organized groups similar to those operating in #Turkey... These groups attacked Muslims and massacred the population of entire villages. Unlike #Dashnaktsutyun, #Azerbaijan'is didn't have a similar organization and fought without coordination or plan" 6/10
Thus, the seeds of hate were sown in 1905. Around 120 years have passed but the policy of divide and rule is still in action. Read this article - news.am/rus/news/69737…, for example. Commenting on the possible peace treaty between #Armenia and #Azerbaijan 7/10
Tarasov, in a quite irritated manner, says: "well, let him sign. Who's stopping him? Let him (Pashinyan) go to #Baku and sign. What's the problem? He's trying to play, trying to mess everyone up and cover everyone with his sh*t. Do it! That's your problem! Solve it! 8/10
He wants to sign? Let him sign. There's a feeling in Moscow that #Armenian's, led by Pashinyan, no longer have anything to do with #Karabakh. #Russia will protect Karabakh Armenians. It will protect them till the end. It won't solve these issues with Yerevan, but with Baku 9/10
To conclude, I doubt #Russia sincerely wants to solve the conflict. The #Armenia-#Azerbaijan conflict has served as a leverage for over 100 years, and Russia keen on preserving it. Therefore, both sides must do everything endeavor for #Brussels process to bear fruits. 10/10
