Karim told me about his talks with Iran's Oil Minister , @javad_owji over new gas supply deal: "We had a very good & also a very tough discussion. We agreed on 2-3 articles. Firstly, we have to pay all the loans they're asking for, around $1.69bn."

Iraq relies on imported Iranian gas as feedstock for power stations responsible for c. 8 GW electricity (that's quite a lot). Under US pressure, Baghdad has been trying to diversify its power supplies - but it's taking a long time to agree purchase prices with new suppliers.
There have been reports floating around for weeks about a 300 MW+ tie-line with #Turkey. The Electricity Minister told me that this pins on private sector company in Iraq agreeing purchase price with private Turkish provider. This hasn't happened yet. iraqoilreport.com/news/qa-electr…
