1. Thread: Astonishing circular issued by Cox’s Bazar District Judge, Mohammed Ismail, re #Rohingya refugees. Circular criminalises entire #refugee population & effectively urges against bail. Changes are specific for Rohingyas alone.
2. District Judge Mohammed Ismail accuses #Rohingya in the camps of “indulging in various heinous crimes including drug trade, murder, disappearance, rape, human trafficking, robbery, kidnapping.”
3. Circular states that common people around the camps live a “life of fear” and that “law and order forces are struggling to maintain law and order or suppress crime in the #Rohingya camps.”
4. It states that “day by day their (#Rohingya) criminal activities are increasing. As a result, an excessive number of cases are bing filed against them for various crimes including murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping.”
5. The circular states that in such a situation, “it is the moral responsibility of all concerned to cooperate in the investigation of the crimes of #Rohingya …..WITHOUT negotiating bail before the scheduled time.”
6. Circular effectively urges suspending process of law AS IT APPLIES to #Rohingya#refugees. And the reason given is difficult to understand, - that issuing bail to #Rohingya will increase the work load of judges.
However, bail is a fundamental right of every accused!

Thread 1/8 Confusing picture emerging regarding the attack on Christian #Rohingya in Kutupalong Camp 2E Block 1. Christians in the camp are a much maligned group with many unfounded rumours about them. Especially false is how they are converting masses of Muslim Rohingya.
2/8 Similarly, simply blaming "ARSA" without investigation recalls the catch all “kharap manush” or “bad people” attribution favoured by the Burmese govt. to blame anything and everything on ARSA.
3/8 I heard that on the 26th January around 4pm a Muslim Rohingya from Camp 20 (?) was assaulted by Christian Rohingya. He was not released despite requests. The camp authorities were alerted and members of the BD police and army arrived to find chaotic scenes.
This is 6-year-old Omar Faisal. He has just recovered from a bout of pneumonia. And today, June 20, #WorldRefugeeDay he is returning to the plastic and bamboo home he shares with his #Rohingya parents & siblings in one of the world's largest refugee camps - in #Bangladesh
He is very happy as you can see from his pic.
Omar has a big challenge in front of him. Children with his condition, hydrocephaly, do not fare well if not treated early. Luckily, Omar can still talk ( he talks a lot!) and still has his sight. #WorldRefugeeDay
In #Myanmar, there was no opportunity for Omar to seek medical help. His parents even traveled to #Bangladesh when he was one but were thwarted by the large fee demanded by the hospital. Now Omar & his family are #refugees after the #Rohingya crisis of 2017. #WorldRefugeeDay
