1/ @JM_Whiteside @adriandix pls explain why you're not using every tool in the toolbox to protect #bced students/staff/fam & public when even your own govt branches-@CDCofBC @PHSAofBC-are chalk full of online resources re: risks & devastating effects of #LongCovid #LongCovidKids
2/ Specifically, as per the @CDCofBC "COVID-19 Illness in Children" page (updated Jan/22)
"If your child still feels sick weeks or months after having COVID-19, it’s called Post-COVID-19 condition or “long COVID”. It may affect both children & adults." bccdc.ca/health-info/di…
3/ Also, re: above is @PHAC info, a "Welcome to #LongCovid" lntro video & harsh dose of reality look behind BCPH "back to normalcy" PR curtain w/@PHSAofBC link including real risks of life altering effects that can occur even after "mild" acute illness: phsa.ca/our-services/p…
4/& linked to this "Post-COVID19 Interdisciplinary Clinical Care Network" above-you know, the whole network est in partnership w/@PHSAofBC & ALL BC HAs to treat enormity of #LongCovid patients (that #DrHenry never mentions)-is overload of patient education:phsa.ca/health-info/po…
5/ The above titled "Living w/Post-COVID Symptoms" asks if you're "BC resident struggling w/post-COVID..& looking for help" AKA sorry we didn't tell you in pressers but hey, all the info was quietly being updated here so you know, it's not like we were hiding it, exactly..#bcpoli
6/ On same page, is all the sobering #LongCovid facts in every form - from diagrams, resource sheets to videos - all in devastating detail w/breakdown of symptom descriptions, prognosis, life altering effects & coping techniques. These should be shared widely by #bcmedia! #bcpoli
7/ In fact, these videos (linked to @PHSAofBC) created by @LongCovidPhysio - inter'l peer support/edu/advocacy/patient-led Assoc of Physios living w/#LongCovid - s/b used to inform BC incl #bced to warn re: risks & why masking & clean air are essential. longcovid.physio
8/They're excellent & transcribed. And this 1 says: "There's wide diversity of #LongCovid symptoms & adults, young people & children of all ages may experience different clusters of symptoms that can be episodic or fluctuate over time." @JM_Whiteside #bced longcovid.physio/long-covid-vid…
9/ & this 1 states @WHO clinical def: "Common symptoms may incl fatigue, shortness of breath, cognitive dysfunction & others & generally impact everyday functioning. Symptoms may be new onset following initial recovery...or persist from initial illness." longcovid.physio/long-covid-vid…
10/ & this: "#LongCovid doesn't assume causes, exp of symptoms & impacts...or best ways to recover, are known. Long COVID makes it clear that not being admitted to hosp...is not necessarily mild w/often severe disease & disability emerging much later..." longcovid.physio/long-covid-vid…
11/ & this: "There's now millions...living w/Long COVID [worldwide], often for many mths or yrs & there's risks of #COVID19 re-infections & dif variants. The increasing global scale...w/many human & economic impacts [makes it] extremely imp health issue." longcovid.physio/long-covid-vid…
12/ @JM_Whiteside @adriandix @BCSTA_News @BCSTA_President it's past time #LongCovid risks to adults & kids (esp fact they can occur after a mild illness) are widely publicized along w/employment of all SMART mitigation strategies as per @SafeSchoolsBC @Protect_BC. #bced #bcpoli

1/🧵 Hello @KasariGovender? How is this just or equitable? This is the diabolical result of “personal choice” AKA “focused protection.” @CDCofBC: “People w/certain health conditions may choose to isolate completely during pandemic - a practice called protective self-separation.”
2/ con’t “This is personal choice... Staying home & not seeing people can make you feel lonely & isolated. You’ll need to consider your mental & emotional health if you decide to practice protective self-separation & think about ways to stay connected…”bccdc.ca/health-info/di…
3/ So basically, according to @CDCofBC if you have health conditions, you better steer clear of Covid b/c even your gov’t confirms that you’re at risk for severe outcome. But you’re completely on your own while majority of BC public will be living it up like it’s 2019! #bcpoli

1/ So, remember BC studies w/waived ethics co-authored by #DrHenry? Well, I looked into BCPH Act re:Emerg Powers & to summarize:
#DrHenry still believes #COVID19 is significant risk as "infectious/hazardous agent" w/serious PH impact but she wants you to forget all that.#bcpoli
2/ Let me explain. So, as per the PH Act, Part 5-Emerg Powers, sec 53: “During an emerg, this Part applies despite any provision of this or any other enactment, incl "the collection, use or disclosure of personal info..." #bcpoli bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document…
3/ This above section may just provides a convenient cherry-picking opportunity to justify no participant consent in these studies, but in order for this section to apply, there must be a BCPH Emergency declared, stipulating serious risk to PH. #bcpoli

1/🧵So, who's ready to explore some "made in BC" ethics waivers w/me? Six studies w/similar stmts & one document that might just be a crucial puzzle piece. btw-this thread & corresponding paper is culmination of weeks of my intermittent research...okay, here. it. goes...#bcpoli
2/ Before getting into it, lets look at the waiver stmts w/each corresponding study. The 1st five are all co-authored by #DrHenry incl. 4 vax studies & the P.1 study. The 6th is a WGS project that took place during the P1 outbreak & the Delta wave. They are as follows: #bcpoli
3/ #1 Vax study stmt: "Data linkages & analyses were conducted under a surveillance mandate, authorized by the PHO under the Public Health Act, and exempt from research ethics board review.”#bcpoli ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

1/🧵So, remember when word spread that P.1. was exploding &⬆️young people seriously ill but BCPH narrative re: VOC prevalence was murky at best? Well, what if I told you there's published proof that P.1 cases were almost 4X the disclosed total by #DrHenry @adriandix & @CDCofBC?
2/ Let's travel back to Mar/Apr 2021 when doctors were sounding the alarm wrt to the seriousness of P.1. & #DrHenry emphasized "the small # variants represent" & that they were, as usual, "watching carefully," as per this @PennyDaflos news article: #bcpoli bc.ctvnews.ca/it-really-hit-…
3/ When #DrHenry said they were "watching carefully" she really meant it! You see, as it happens there was a BC study wrt P.1. ongoing headed by BCCDC's Dr.Hogan w/co-authors incl. Dr.Krajden, hosp docs from Kelowna/Victoria/St.Paul's & none other than #DrHenry herself. #bcpoli

1/7🧵So, remember when we were begging for RATs & BCPH & #DrHenry were refusing us access at every turn? Well, a certain @CDCofBC PH Laboratory Medical Director, not only knew early on their usefulness, esp wrt asymptomatic infection but he co-authored article about it.#bcpoli
2/7 Mel Krajden said this Mar29/21: “RATs can detect infection in people w/viral loads…regardless if they're symptomatic or not. People who have asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infections may account for more than 1/2 of SARS-CoV-2 transmissions” #bcpoli cmaj.ca/content/193/13…
3/7 This is very same Mel Krajden that 7mths later on Nov16/21 emoted these ideologically laced words in @frozen’s video clip as RATs were withheld. FLWs, LTC residents, health-compromised & #bced staff/families were at high risk & getting sick.#bcpoli

1/ 🧵Well, it took me awhile to organize all this research info. So many rabbit holes. I finally decided the best way forward was to divide into parts. So the following is Part 1 summary of BC's vast research funding sources/initiatives. Hold on to your hats, it's a ride! #bcpoli
2/ 1st up, @HlthResearchBC. Did you know that the MSHR launched a Covid-19 Research Response Fund at outset of pandemic w/call out to BC researchers to have results available in time to inform public health responses thru fall/winter 2021? #bcpoli msfhr.org/1/news_article…
3/ Also, did you know that there's a Covid-19 Strategic Research Advisory Committee (SRAC) that supports BC's coordinated research pandemic response? It's bridge btwn PHO, gov't & research community w/primary role to advise on priorities/funding/findings.msfhr.org/strategic-prov…
