The 252M, 114k ton Singapore-flagged crude oil tanker #AffinityV went aground south bound in the #Suez, just north of where #EverGiven went aground in March 2021.
Egyptian tugs are on scene.
Vessels in the southbound convoy from the lake appear to be in disarray having to stop.
Looking at her track on @MarineTraffic, she appeared to ground, get loose and is now grounded again.
Her last port was Sines, Portugal enroute to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. She is probably light and heading to load.
Tanker #AFFINITYV is currently being assisted by the large tug Ezzat Adel and three smaller tugs.
They appeared to have removed her from the initial grounding but then grounded again a mile further south based on her AIS data.
It looks like #AFFINITYV is now reporting herself STOPPED vice aground.
The potential damage from the collision by Amelia probably has both ships assessing their situation before moving them.
Live streaming about #AffinityV and her grounding in the #Suez.
Situation resolved. #AFFINITYV is heading southbound, followed by #Amelia. Other ships should be proceeding shortly.
Based on AIS, it appeared Affinity was being set to the west and in her lightly loaded condition may have been pushed into the bank....
She was the hit by Amelia. The tugs were able to pivot #AFFINITYV counter-clockwise and get her stern back into the channel. The West side of the #Suez does not have spoil in it like the East side where #EverGiven grounded. Once turned, she was able to back out.
I am not even sure where to start with this @NavalInstitute article.
1. Saying that @MSCSealift is not much of a combat or a logistics force is insulting to those mariners who perform this mission everyday and get treated with general 2nd class respect for their work.
2. The Next Generation Logistic Vessel follows the trend with the Littoral Combat Ship and now the Light Amphibious Warfare that tries to do logistics on the cheap (but it will not be) and distributed (which means less).
3. Saying that LHD/LHAs are "LIKE" UNREP ships is the same as saying since they carry F35w they are "LIKE" nuclear aircraft carriers.
The capabilites may be similar, but the scale and missions are completely different.
1/This has been a busy news week for What's Going on With Shipping.
We had our weekly update, update on the #BonhommeRichard, fire on board a Peruvian Navy warship in #Rimpac, an agreement in #UkraineRussiaWar on grain, and a missing containership.
1⃣Supply Chain & Rise in US Container Imports
2⃣Brazil, Bulkers & China's Mineral Resource Group
3⃣US Energy Exports Increase
4⃣Labor Strikes Around the World
5⃣ US Inland & Coastal Waters
3/US Navy Finally Announces Punishments for Bonhomme Richard Fire, Two Years After Ship's Loss
This is the fifth video in my #BonhommeRichard series with two videos from 2020 examining the fire and two others that analyze the JAGMAN investigation.
1/The agreement brokered by Turkey between Russia and Ukraine to open up ports along the Gulf of #Odesa in the #BlackSea cannot work if Russia plans on attacking the ports in question.
There are many hurdles that need to be overcome for this to work.
2/First, the need for the grain is paramount. @unctad has made clear the vital importance of #grain, in particular #wheat, #sunflower, #corn & #barley for nations in Africa.
3/Myself and @johnkonrad was on @CavasShips Podcast to talk about this very topic last week.

1. The latest @CRSOfficial report on the @usnavy Next-Generation Logistics Ship (NGLS) Program.
Let's have a look at what they have set out and what looks good and what may be some pitfalls.
2/First, the @USNavy is looking for procurement of the first ship in FY26 at a cost of $150M. This is roughly the cost of a T-EPF and one-third the cost of a new T-AO.
Not sure that this timeline or cost will be accurate based on the specifications.
3/Terminology may not seem important, but if these ships will be operated by @MSCSealift, that means that will lack any A2/AD capabilities; which based on the concept of ops, may be an issue. Some MSC ships have defensive weapons, but small arms and limited point defense.
2/#SpiritOfNorfolk obviously lost power as she drifted into the path of the bulker, Spar Lyra.
That ship caught a buoy on her stern and two Moran tugs, chartered by @MSCSealift to provide towing services at the base had to assist the vessel from evading the containment boom.
3/In a press briefing that afternoon, the Fed Fire Chief noted that they had adopted a defensive stance.
Due to the flooding from firefighting, and the location of the fire in the engine room, they were not permitting personal on board due to risk.
