Blaming the Victim & Saving the Perpetrator Under the Mantle of Human Rights
A response to the #US, #Australia, #Germany, #Denmark, the #Netherlands, #UK, #Canada & the #EU who have issued a Joint Statement on Oct 06 & 12 respectively.

For almost 2 yrs, the US & EU desperately tried to downplay & whitewash TPLF’s high crimes of War of Insurrection with all its security & humanitarian ramifications in Ethiopia & the wider region. The ploy invariably included unwarranted accusations & scapegoating of #Eritrea

EU External Service issued a deplorable statement on Oct 6,2022 accusing #Eritrea, among other things, of “playing a destructive role in the Tigray conflict”& on Oct 12, the US, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, UK & Canada issued a Joint Statement along the same lines.

The concerted pronouncements of willful harassment of the victims of #TPLF’s war of choice are but an extension of decades-old policies of stoking conflict in our region pursued by these powers to advance their own narrow agendas.

The origins & dynamics of the current war in #Ethiopia are otherwise clear & unambiguous as the following sequences of events illustrate:

1. The vicious war in #Ethiopia was triggered solely & only b/c #TPLF launched massive, premeditated military assaults on all contingents of the Northern Command on 3 Nov 2020. It deployed 250,000 Militia’s & Special Forces for the operation its commanders dubbed as “blitzkrieg”.

2.The TPLF’s pronounced objectives in launching its reckless War of Insurrection were to totally neutralized the #Ethiopian Northern Command; capture all its heavy weaponry (which constituted about 80% of the ENDF’s total ordinance) and topple the Federal Government.

3.Annulment of the historic Eritrea-Ethiopia Peace Agreement and subsequent acts of continued destabilization of #Eritrea was an integral and pronounced part of the TPLF’s War of Insurrection.

4.The TPLF’s War was not confined to its reckless military assaults in Nov 2020 & against the backdrop of successive unilateral & humanitarian cease-fires declared by the Federal Gov't, #TPLF persisted to unleash the 2nd in June 2021 & 3rd Offensive on 24 Aug 2022.

In all these acts, the #TPLF commandeered and funneled #humanitarian assistance and #WFP trucks to its war efforts; and, conscripted tens of thousands of child soldiers using them as cannon fodder in its costly human-wave war tactics.

In the event, these countries cannot feign ignorance &/or claim the moral high ground to pontificate to Eritrea on “peace and human rights’’. The litany of transgressions perpetrated against #Eritrea for decades with support & collusion of some of these powers include:

i) tacit and all-rounded support to the #TPLF’s vicious and two-year long war against #Eritrea (1998-2000) when the former was at the helm of power in #Ethiopia;

ii) similar stance when the ruthless regime of the #TPLF expelled, from #Ethiopia, over 75 thousand #Eritrea|ns and Ethiopians of Eritrean origin and looted their life-time wealth;

iii) deplorable collusion with #TPLF as it reneged on its treaty obligations & continued to occupy sovereign #Eritrea|n territories in violation of the #EEBC Arbitral Award in accordance with the provisions of Algiers Peace Agreement,the #US & #EU brokered & explicitly guaranteed

It is this backdrop of impunity and blanket support that has continuously emboldened the #TPLF to unleash reckless military offensives jeopardizing the peace and security of #Eritrea, #Ethiopia and the wider region of the #HOA, in the past two years

#Eritrea’s regional policy, in the horn of #Africa, is otherwise centered on regional peace, stability and economic cooperation on the basis of full respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Member States.

#Eritrea cherishes regional peace, friendship and cooperation as it has been the victim, for decades, of imposed and intermittent wars perpetrated to advance unlawful extraneous and local agendas.
