Here's daily hospitalizations and ICUs. There is an upwards trend here. Previously you would see a wave, and then it would go down after protections were put into place. We are no longer seeing those returns to baseline, we are seeing leapfrogging.

This is hospitalizations layered year over year. We have 1070 to last year's 989 patients when comparing October 17th of both years. The highest of last year's fall wave for hospitalizations I believe was 1130. We are 60 patients away from that.

Our average hospitalizations is also surpassing last October so far. (October 2022 is only based off of data up to Oct 17th inclusive.)

The AB gov has released new data which shows that 2023 had the highest number of drug-poisoning deaths on record with 2,051. That's on average, six Albertans fatally overdosing per day and a 17% increase compared to 2022. #opioids #overdose #ab #alberta #edmonton #yyc

91% involved opioids however 88% involved non-pharmaceutical opioids defined by the government as fentanyl (and analogues), heroin and designer opiates. #opioids #overdose #ab #alberta #edmonton #yyc

2023 saw a 22% increase in opioid (both pharma and non-pharma) related deaths compared to 2022, making 2023 a record breaking year for the number of opioid-related deaths in Alberta as well. #opioids #overdose #ab #alberta #edmonton #yyc

Today the AB Gov released the following data saying there's a positive trend when it comes to overdose deaths.
-Since 2018 deaths from pharmaceutical opioids have been reduced by 70%
-Since 2021 deaths from methamphetamine have been reduced by 41%

-Since 2021 deaths from cocaine have been reduced by 61%
-Since 2021 deaths from alcohol have been reduced by 60%
-Since 2017 deaths from benzos have been reduced by 33%

Now what is VERY important to note with this data set is that they are referring to pharmaceutical opioids ONLY.
The definition according to the provinces dashboard is 'Typically prescribed opioids, like codeine, hydromorphone, methadone'.

Majority of new admissions were in Edmonton with 87 and 68 in Calgary. Most were in the 80+ age range (112 new) followed by 70-79 age range (52 new).
7 new hospital admissions in those under 1 year old, and 4 new admissions for those in the 1-4 age group.

Hospitalizations and ICU are now given as new admissions per week instead of total number of Albertans in hospital.
With +125 new #hospitalizations and +5 new #icu admissions we are closest to Jan 8, 2023 which had 135. #alberta #ab #yeg #yyc

How to act around #servicedogs from the wife of a #veteran
🧵: My husband served 2 tours in Afghanistan as a tank driver with the #CAF. He joined when he was only 17 and served for over 7 years. He has very severe #PTSD, we’ve been told by VA case managers that he has one of 1/13

the most severe cases in Canada by their disability standards.

My husband got a PTSD service dog after being on a waiting list for 6 years.

Before he got a service dog I had no idea the sorts of things both he and I would experience and how it was like to have one.

On a daily basis people try to touch his dog without asking.

People follow us around to watch them work. People stand too close. They stare. They take photos.

There are people who deliberately try to get his dog to misbehave by creating distractions. 3/13
