I think this approach to inner spiritual conversion as a factory production problem needs serious, sustained attention.

3/ All the incentives & structures of diocesan churches point that way—Oct counts, collection totals, school headcounts, etc. are perceived measures of vitality.

4/ When I was at @CatholicUniv in the 90s they quantified "#Catholic identity" with headcounts at Masses, Benedictions, Adorations, etc. That was all. The bishops were pleased.

5/ The ongoing reception of V2 and the #synod on #synodality unnerve a lot of ppl I think because they're calling us to think more spirtually, more challengingly abt what it means to be #Catholic Christians.
