🔒 JUST STOP OIL SUPPORTER SENTENCED TO 6 MONTHS IN PRISON
🦺 Jan Goodey, a 57-year-old #JustStopOil supporter from Brighton, was today sentenced to 6 months in prison for taking part in an action on the #M25 in November to demand an end to new oil and gas in the UK.
🛣️ Jan was arrested after climbing a gantry at Junction 16 on November 7th — he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today and was found guilty of causing a public nuisance. This was the first trial under this new statutory offence enacted under the PCSC Act 2022.
⚖️ The magistrate imposed a sentence of 9 months, which was reduced to 6 months as a result of a guilty plea. The magistrate spoke of wanting to use his sentencing as a “deterrent” against further disruption of ordinary people going about their “lawful business”
🦺 Two more Just Stop Oil supporters, Anthony Whitehouse and Arne Springorum, are due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow at 2pm, charged with public nuisance for taking part in the November M25 actions.
💬 “This shows that our Government would rather lock up peaceful protesters than put an end to new oil and gas, which will destroy everything we know and love. We will continue to do everything nonviolently possible to stop this horror. This is what Jan has done.”
🦺 Yesterday, 13 #JustStopOil supporters were accompanied by at least 17 @metpoliceuk officers on a slow stroll through London. 30 strong, the odd pairing marched along the Strand to demand an end to all new oil and gas in the UK.
🚓 The Met even turned up with five patrol vans and proceeded to slowly drive the convoy behind the Just Stop Oil supporters along the entire route of the march, causing traffic delays.
🍻 A group of Just Stop Oil supporters then arrived at a Leicester Sq Spoons to celebrate a birthday — the officers posted up on the opposite side of the road to keep watch, reportedly ignoring calls to join in for a “cheeky one on the clock” from the Just Stop Oil supporters.
“Why is the government refusing to listen? The people of this country have had enough, and we deserve better from our leaders. Don’t let them convince you that we can’t make change. When we move as a collective, we have power.”
🚧 ROADS IN ALDWYCH NOW BLOCKED
We are Just Stop Oil.
We are demanding.
That the British government.

🚨 Hunger striking Just Stop Oil supporter remains in hospital wing:
🏥 A Just Stop Oil supporter who went on hunger strike to demand that the Govt end new oil & gas has been unexpectedly moved to the hospital wing as prison staff became increasingly concerned for their health.
🛣 Tez Burns (they/them), a 34-year-old bicycle mechanic from Swansea, was remanded to Bronzefield prison on Friday 11 November after being arrested for taking part in the actions to disrupt the #M25 motorway by climbing on the overhead gantries.
Louis McKechnie was imprisoned awaiting trial on July 5th for taking non-violent action in support of Just Stop Oil. His case is expected to be heard in February 2023.
"Sitting in HMP Peterborough on my 22nd birthday, I’d like to reflect on the year gone by. On my last birthday I was sent to HMP Thameside for my role in the Insulate Britain campaign. A lot has changed since then: the cost of living crisis and climate crisis have gotten worse...
...and government inaction is costing more lives by the day. More citizens than I can count have been imprisoned for resisting these “leaders” and COP27 has somehow achieved even less than COP26 last year.
You may have seen that @grantshapps (the man who toyed with putting number-plates on bicycles and is shortest serving Home Secretary in history) said we are "misguided".
"It’s hard to think of a government more misguided than the one that Grant Shapps is currently a member of, unless of course it’s the last one. The one that lasted weeks, that crashed the economy and put up bills for millions of already struggling families.
Shapps is now serving as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, but when he was housing minister and transport minister – the massive carbon emissions, the harm from these sectors did not reduce. Shapps has been in and out of Government for 12 years.
From today, Just Stop Oil will halt its campaign of civil resistance on the M25. We are giving time to those in Government who are in touch with reality to consider their responsibilities to this country at this time. (1/6)
We ask that the Prime Minister consider his statement at COP27, where he spoke of the catastrophic threat posed by the ravages of global heating, the 33 million people displaced by floods in Pakistan, and the moral and economic imperative to honour our pledges. (2/6)
