Sunday's #RussiaUkraine news thread begins here on Day 298 of the war.

Welcome along and Happy Hanukkah if you celebrate this evening.
Incidentally, the New York Times quotes Putiin calling #Ukraine's Jewish leader #Zelenskyy as "an assistant to Nazism"🍲🫖⚫️(no kettle emoji😂)
It's nice to report another fairly quiet start to Day 298 in #Ukraine.

There's a touch of Star Wars about the war from today...

Actor @MarkHamill, a strong supporter of #Ukraine, has become the voice of the English language Air Alert app.

"Luke Skywalker" adds some iconic Star Wars quotes along with news on possible threats.
#SaveUkraine
Looks like we are just 4 days away from the 100,000th regular Russian troop being killed in action in #Ukraine.

Another bumper "crop" of almost 600 in the last 24 hours for the nation defending its' sovereignty. #Russia continues to suffer regular hits on its military bases. Image
I wrote about a touch of Star Wars in #Ukraine... but it's more like "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" for #Russia, reading today's update from British Intel.

Desperate to revive flagging morale with circus performers, singers and musical instruments.
They know the Funeral March? Image
This time next week much of the world will be celebrating Christmas.

I'm retweeting this in case you missed the farce, probably highly insulting to many.

#Russia plans to effectively lock up the entire population in Occupied #Zaporizhzhia.

#Ukraine's General Staff says an extraordinary 24-hour curfew will be introduced

Meanwhile 24 settlements in free ZP and #Kherson were shelled in the last 24 hours.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
Much has been made in Russian media of an interview with ex-senator of Virginia, Richard Black.

The discredited pro-#Russia mouthpiece claims "Russia is winning in #Bakhmut, Ukraine is losing"

#BakhmutHolds after 19 weeks and #Ukraine's army publishes these photos from the town ImageImageImageImage
The once magnificent Donbas Arena in #Donetsk has been shelled again.

Formerly home to @FCShakhtar, ten years ago it staged the semi final of #Euro2012

Family and friends of Simon "Grimmy" Lingard, from Great Harwood in Lancashire, this weekend said their final goodbyes.

Simon was not only a brave volunteer soldier but also a fundraiser for #Ukraine

#RussiaOnFire

The #Irkutsk region has seen a few "smoking related" accidents lately.

This evening a powerful explosion at the #Markovskoe oil and gas field.

The fire covered an area of about 1,000 square metres.

#StopRussia Image
#Russia claims #Ukraine shelled a hospital in #Donetsk today.

Puppet leader Denis Pushilin says a man died at the Kalinin hospital.

There is no proof who fired the shells.
This video is said to be #Ukraine forces hitting #Russian targets on the Kinburn spit.

The battle for the thin strip of land south of #Mykolaiv continues.

Unverified - virtually no news has come from Kinburn with both sides reporting almost the exact opposite.
#RussiaOnFire

A village in #Belgorod region, bordering #Ukraine, is without power tonight.

A local substation caught fire in the village of #KrasnayaYaruga.
Some locals mention an explosion before the fire, but not all.

#StopRussia
Looks like a couple of Russian Father Christmases did their best to fulfill Ukrainian seasonal wishes by trying to throw themselves under passing cars.

Day 1201 of Europe's war.
But the pre-conflict hybrid war has already been waging worldwide for years. Hacking, election interference, sabotage - we're all targeted by Russia, even if we don't all realise it yet.

Ukraine can stop the war criminal with our help.
Welcome to the🧵
Maybe Sunday will bless Ukraine with a quiet day?

Saturday was another full-on journalistic stint, catching sleep when I could.
Kharkiv shattered overnight then a daytime attack on a kids' railway.
Operation Web 2.0 & a factory hit in Russia.
It's all ⬇️

Early this morning, just before the end of the previous thread I showed the Azot chemical plant in Tula region on fire.
Not long afterwards, Ukraine hit another facility, this time in Russia-controlled 🇺🇦

This is the Hydromash factory in Melitopol' in occupied Zaporizhzhia.

Welcome to yet another daily thread covering all things Ukraine and Russia.

It's Day 1195 and the day of the latest talks between the sides in Istanbul.

But all the buzz is still about one of the most incredible and successful military attacks ever, and Russia is hurting.
Ukraine's astonishingly well planned, daring and audacious attack is front page news around the world this morning.

If somehow you don't know what I am writing about, you're in for a treat. Re-live the extraordinary day by scrolling through Sunday's🧵⬇️

First important news from Poland where the Presidential election has been won by the anti-EU, anti-Ukraine candidate, right-wing Nawrocki

Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.

Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.

Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.

Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
1/5
I want to start with events in Bryansk region.
What's happened is a tragedy even if you believe all Russians are partly to blame for the war.

7 people died - five passengers on a train and 2 in a truck. 69 were injured.

The lorry crashed down when the bridge collapsed.

Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.

Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.

It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.

But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!

Russia says 33 drones have been shot down approaching Moscow during the night.

The biggest incident is clearly this at the Mikron micro-electronics plant in Zelenograd, in Moscow oblast...

Hello again and welcome to the daily thread for Day 1189 of Russia's illegal war.

While media keep hinting Trump may be about to impose sanctions on Putin's regime, there's still evidence to say he hates Zelenskyy more.

All the news from and about Ukraine in one🧵right here:
As always though, in case you missed anything yesterday, blow is the link to the start of Monday's thread

So if you don't have much time online, just bookmark my profile page and you can always go back to where you left off for a summary of all the news
A much quieter night, but Russia still fired 60 drones into Ukraine. Air Defence managed to stop 43 (35 shot down and 8 disabled via EW)

But that still leaves 17 which made it through, at a very high strike rate of 28%

Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.

Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.

Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now

But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!

But please return!
