The Inden mine site is about 145 km (90 miles) from #Lützerath, where coal-mine resistance put the #climatecrisis back in the news last week. ImageImageImage
In vehicles provided by the large mining corporation RWE, about three dozen police arrived to the Inden open mine where environmental activists shut down a coal excavator several hours ago.

This action comes a week after the eviction of #Lützerath to make way for mine expansion. ImageImage

#BreakingNews A protester was shot and killed by police Wednesday morning, January 18, in the midst of a multi-jurisdictional raid on the Atlanta Forest, also known as the Weelaunee Forest, in DeKalb County, southeast of Atlanta.

The identity of the protester is currently unknown. A Georgia State Trooper was reportedly also shot during the raid and is currently undergoing surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to police.
At least three other protesters were reportedly arrested during the raid and were charged with “aggravated assault on a public safety officer” and “domestic terrorism.”

Today a demonstration against the eviction of Lützerath started in Keyenberg, where a group of climate activists have moved their camp. Earlier this morning, climate activists occupied an excavator machine in the nearby Inden open pit coal mine, shutting down operations for hours Image
A small group of activists with a banner attempted to walk towards the edge of the mine, some 900 feets away. They were quickly turned back by police officers, who walked with the demo in large numbers.
The demo, led by a sound system truck, headed south on the L12 road and ended at a site near the edge of the Garzweiler II coal mine where greenpeace staged a few trailers. An organizer then read solidarity messages over the loud speaker from activist groups in other countries.

Despite the raid that led to six people being charged with state-level domestic terrorism charges on Dec. 13-14, and the damage to the public park, on Dec. 21, forest defenders and community members gathered to celebrate the solstice and hold their free weekly meal and foodshare.
Blackhall believes it owns the park’s land because of the land swap deal finalized on Feb. 11, 2021 between DeKalb County and Blackhall Real Estate Phase II, LLC, which is managed by Ryan Millsap.

One hundred thirty-four years after slavery officially ended in Brazil, a mixture of feelings ranging from revolt, insecurity, pain, hatred & disgust rose amongst Ribeirão-Pretanos when they learned of an 82-year-old woman being rescued after 27 years in servitude. ↕️
News of the elder being freed came on Dec. 7, 2022 by the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT). Details emerged that the woman was kept in service analogous to slavery for nearly three decades in a house located in the Ribeirania neighborhood in the eastern region of Ribeirão Preto. ↕️
