While all this focus is on @GaryLineker, he gets criticised a lot for tweeting about this because he understands that most people don’t understand the magnitude of what we are facing in our kids lifetimes and maybe our own. Worth watching. A thread #MOTD#MOTDboycott#football
How millions is spent on PR, lobbying and disinformation, to stop you from understanding they are polluting the world as they earn billions and billions: #JustStopOilforbes.com/sites/niallmcc…
Lots of people try to play it down and suggest that it won’t be that bad and that scientists are not personally worried. They are. Here’s NASA’s @ClimateHuman in tears talking about his fears for his sons future #garylineker#MOTD
People often say ‘the climate has changed before!’. They are right - and it’s catastrophic when it does. This is what can happen when volcanoes release huge amount of CO2 like we are today by burning fossil fuels. #Lineker#motd#DavidAttenborough
How bad can it get? Really, really bad - and we are currently going the wrong way. Boris Johnson warned it could collapse society. This is a thread about that by scientist Dr Aaron Thierry who has been arrested simply for protesting to demand action #MOTD#DavidAttenborough
People say ‘What about China!’ China is acting but they are right. China does need to do much more and the only way it will do is if the public demand our governments act and make lobbying countries like China, India, the US, Russia, Australia, a priority
The weather across the world is already going crazy - this year looks set to be another year of insane weather - so there is no time to lose.
The world has not taken enough action because the public have been confused by constant propaganda in the media funded by the polluters. Sounds like a conspiracy theory? It’s true theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Lots of the media is owned by billionaires who don’t want the rich to pay for the world to take action, and they have created a cynical culture where caring for the planet is seen as weird or ‘tree hugger’ish
Though they are nowhere near as bad as most of the rest of the media, some of whom have intentionally misrepresented, suppressed or lied about the facts, which makes us less likely to understand and demand action and puts us all in danger - which is why they do it
Now the situation is so bad scientists are pleading with us to act. Many are protesting such as those with @ScientistRebel1 and are even been jailed for doing so - something which the media is terrible at reporting itv.com/news/2019-11-0…
Scientists are at their wits end, terrified by their findings and don’t understand why the media is not telling the public how serious the threat is to us all, on front pages of newspapers and the top of news reports more regularly #MOTD#lineker
And that is because of media barons like Rupert Murdoch who control enormous sections of the global media, from The Sun and Talk TV to Fox News, who believe they know more about climate change than NASA, Oxford etc and the worlds scientists
And this has informed a cynical attitude in many people in the media who treat climate change protests as worse than climate change itself #Motd#lineker#DavidAttenborough#climatecrisis
Lots of people pretend it’s not happening but looking away doesn’t make it go away. If we don’t rise up and demand change and that the media front pages the full truth, then it is going to get far, far worse. Prof Will Steffen from Australian National University:
There will be loads of faceless accounts, bots etc tweeting abuse and outdated arguments under this, mostly funded by Russia & the US oil industry who make billions weekly from burning fossil fuels. They rely on people not thinking for themselves and have conned a lot of people

Fact: Clear air turbulence - the most violent - is increasing as we heat the planet and will get 300% worse in some areas over the next 30 yrs. This video is so frightening. Could it be the penny drop moment for some people to understand life on earth is never going to be the same. What is happening to 🌏is beyond full comprehension. And govts intend for it to get worse.
There’s something thing about this video that makes me feel nauseous. I think even for someone like me that thinks about this all the time, it shows a reality that we haven’t really faced before. For 50 years we’ve taken it for granted that it’s our right to soar through the atmosphere in a metal tube - it’s meant to be fun. It’s a lynch pin of our consumerist lives. But this is a man reflecting on carnage. A growing gamble that you might be terribly injured from doing something we’re told is a lifestyle right. I can’t think of many more terrifying things to go through. Even now much of the media is ignoring the facts that’s turbulence is increasing.
We didn’t listen and now the earth is taking the choices we refused to make out of our hands. It’s beyond the worst Greek tragedy.
And to think, our society still maintains that protesters are the problem. It won’t be long before there are 100s of millions on the streets demanding change. No doubt of that at all. Bookmark this.
Scientists have known for decades that burning oil, coal and gas, releases carbon dioxide (CO2) which is a greenhouse gas - meaning it traps heat. The more CO2 there is, the hotter the planet gets:
Since the industrial revolution, burning oil coal and gas (fossil fuels), has dramatically raised levels of CO2 in our atmosphere.
🚨Understand why people are disrupting Shell’s AGM. Short thread. Oil companies knew for sure by the 70s that their product would dangerously heat the world. They spend $1Billion a year trying to confuse and lie to the public about climate change science:
Oil companies fund shady think tanks - front groups - and politicians to attack climate change legislation and anyone advocating for it #ShellAGMopendemocracy.net/en/dark-money-…
Expect extreme and unimaginable violence as the food supply starts to stall. We were warned but we were too busy taking selfies and watching game shows
Can you imagine the difference it would make if climate scientists like NASA’s Peter Kalmus @ClimateHuman were given the coverage that Paris Hilton has had in the British media this week. This is why we’re in deep trouble and the media can’t see it @radioleary@AlisonHammondtwitter.com/i/web/status/1…
