Below a 7-point thread about The Republic of #Moldova.
What happens there, why is it important for #Europe and what can we do?
Why is Moldova important?
It is a country placed between #Ukraine and the European Union.
If #Russia would have an ally in #Moldova in addition to #Lukashenko in #Belarus, Ukraine would be much worse off and Europe would be worse off.
Who tries to destabilise Moldova?
Russia and pro-Russian Moldovan oligarchs.
They have joint interests.
None wants #Moldova with a strong judiciary, fight against corruption, rule of law and integrated in EU. They prefer Moldova to be weak, dependent and unstable.
How do they try to destabilise?
By staging "protests" aimed at weakening the trust of the people in the West and in Moldovan authorities.
Has it worked? No. Not so far.
Moldovan authorities keep control. But attempts to destabilise are permanent. Need to raise awareness.
What can we do?
Provide international financial support to easen social pressure. Inflation was 35% last last year.
Liberalise trade between EU and Moldova. This gives EU perspective to Moldovan enterprises and especially farmers.
Secure its energy independence.
What more can we do?
Help Moldova tackle Russian disinformation.
Include it in key EU projects. Gradually integrate it in EU Single market, even before EU membership.
Free roaming. Important to people.
Sanction pro-Russian oligarchs.
Who wants Moldova integrated in EU?
Who does not?
People & authorities want it go the European way, Russia and Moldovan oligarchs not.
People of Moldova voted pro EU President and gave absolute majority to pro EU party. President @sandumaiamd, PM @DorinRecean strongly pro EU.
Why now? Why "protests"?
Oligarchs: because judiciary starts working. Past corruption cases are being brought to justice.
Russia: because in the past Russia made use of weak majorities to bring governments down when needed. Now pro EU party has absolute majority in Parliament.

As #RRF is the biggest package of economic recovery ever created by #EU, we must ensure that the money reaches the intended beneficiaries, people in need, enterprises, regions and that ALL rules are respected. #EPplenary#RuleOfLaw
During #RRF negotiations, one of @Europarl_EN's main concerns was the respect of #RuleOfLaw because these are taxpayers' money & can be disbursed only if rules, rule of law & #EU values are respected. Hence, we must know more about the national plans of 🇭🇺 🇵🇱 🇸🇪 not yet adopted.
We see that #Polish government is threatening @EU_Commission to start blocking files which should be agreed in a consent procedure. This, while they further attack #RuleOfLaw & the independence of the judiciary. It's an attack on our democratic institutions & our way of work.
Spoke in @Europarl_EN debate on increased energy prices.
Demanded: 1. Understand if there is any market manipulation and sanction those responsible. 2. React to doubling of ETS prices since beginning of year.

3. Propose EU Coordination Toolbox for measures at national level. Make sure that measures in one country do not affect other country. 4. Reduce energy dependence. 5. Increase Social Climate Fund to help those affected by transition to Green Deal.
2/3
6. @EU_Commission shall adjust the upcoming EU own resources proposal to allocate some of the new income of the EU to help vulnerable consumers and enterprises affected by high energy prices.
Finished negotiations on the €672,5 bn European Recovery and Resilience Facility in the @Europarl_EN.
We propose to prolong the program from 3 to 4 years, to increase prefinancing from 10% to 20% to help more and faster. 1/8
The EU Recovery Facility shall have a strong link with the European Semester and shall implement country specific recommendations. #EU Member States 🇪🇺 need reforms to overcome this crisis and avoid being hit hard by any next crises. 3/8
