world famous experts can totally miss the point & unintentionally use their status to proliferate pseudo-correct info as they assume their frameworks are 💯 correct
or
“The value of writing things down we hear or read CAN BE overstated”
example and 🧵👇🏼
As I understand their point:
The motor aspects of writing, when coupled with the real-time granular activity of listening and while “trying to understand” alchemizes learning in powerful ways
Me:
Yes absolutely true
/2
Also me:
would you recommend this method to “write what you hear” b/c “the value cannot be overstated” to
- a opera singer
- a juggler
- person w no arms
- person who can’t write
No? must be out of luck then b/c of this magical “writing” that humans invented recently
/3
In other words
ITs tHe BoDy nOt tHE wRiTiNg
that is this newly discovered “secret sauce” for #learning
So of course researchers will want to pinpoint this effect with writing and listening
And of course their results will be very positive
And of course they will claim “it’s writing things for everyone that’s smart” for 000’s and 000’s to now believe, quote & prescribe
/6
(ugh numbering wrong)
But that’s the problem
The scientific precision over generalizes the impact of the specific conditions being measured
And in this case misses the larger mechanism that better explains the cause
w scientist getting “hits” on the resulting #distortion
Closing w saying these problems are reduced or eliminated with dialogue across disciplines
Which is also why I value playful experts who can hold their expertise spaciously
otherwise their egos spin out b/c their knowledge status gets questioned by an “unworthy” other
I’ve become very adverse to “charge” & “discharge” in #somatic language b/c of the misappropriation by the #trauma workshops merchants
But this is what it means 👇🏼
“If we speak of charge and discharge in Body Psychotherapy we refer to changing the arousal dimension of the core affect. Working with charge and discharge is independent of the emotional category that we awaken or calm by provoking or soothing arousal.” - Ulfried Geuter and… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
In other words …
“emotion”
as a “somatic experience” (ignore the brand)
is a kinesthetic, experiential occurrence that impacts how bodies animate, express, dampen, numb, dissociate, etc
