Day 402 of the war. #Russia's illegal full invasion of #Ukraine.
This is the start of the daily news thread for Saturday 1 April, with all the relevant news updated as quickly and often as I can around the clock.
Thanks everyone for your support.
Together we #StandWithUkraine
I am currently sat in Mother Theresa airport (did you know there was such an airport name?) - I'll give the city/country in the next tweet, a little quiz to start your weekend!
Friday turned out to be quite busy for #Ukraine news, here's the link:
So, the answer to the conundrum? The airport named after Mother Theresa is in Tirana, capital of #Albania. A taxi ride over the border from Montenegro & now two flights to get home.
Thank you @CLies13 who's just bought me multiple coffees to keep me going at airport lounges💙💛
The chairman of the #USA Joint Chiefs of Staff says #Ukraine's victory this year is unlikely.
However, General Mark Milley did say it was still possible:
A 5 month old baby has died under Russian shelling in #Avdiivka.
#Ukraine authorities report the boy's mother refused to leave the day before when police tried to evacuate her and the family. The grandmother also died, while both parents are wounded.
The famous drone manufacturer #Bayraktar announced a successful test launch of its new development.
The IHA-230 supersonic missile produced by Roketsan, can hit targets over 150km away.
The company nased in #Turkiye has always supported #Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
Now news of one of the more unusual international ways of supporting #Ukraine.
#Netherlands has donated 11 sniffer or "sapper" dogs. They will be "in service" to help in demining and detecting the illegal movement and storage of explosives, weapons + ammunition.
The Head of the Moscow branch of #Ukraine's Orthodox Church appears in court after leaving the Lavra
Pavlo Lebed's accused of "repeatedly insulting religious feelings of Ukrainians, humiliated the views of believers of other faiths & tried to form hostile attitudes towards them"
What a world we live in, where the Presidency of the @UN Security Council is held by a Terrorist State.
It's not fit for purpose when, because of the veto, a nation thinks it can act with impunity.
This is supposedly just a poultry enterprise burning strongly earlier today. The chicken farm is in the village of Uruchcha near #Bryansk.
It's only 65km from the border with #Ukraine and some reports claim it may have been a Ukrainian attack.
More courtroom drama earlier in the case of Moscow-patriarch aligned "Pasha Mercedes" as he is known by some for his extravagant lifestyle as a humble priest
Metropolitan Pavel was given house arrest for 60 days, but then said he was unable to wear an ankle tag on health grounds
In the early days I reported on almost every speech by #Ukraine's President. I think it's worth watching today's nightly speech on the day #Russia became chair of the UNSC.
Zelenskyy also praises 'neutral' #Switzerland for joining in sanctions.
Here's another CCTV recording of the explosive sound heard all over the Russian city of #Rostov tonight.
Usually some excuse about fighter jets breaking the sound barrier is wheeled out. Emergency services say there's no incident to attend. Another mystery! #StandWithUkraine
Wednesday 20 May is Day 1547 of Putin's catastrophic full invasion of its peaceful neighbour.
Russia has lost a large part of a generation of men - dead, dying or those who managed to emigrate. Reserves spent, economy collapsing.
Putin, not Zelenskyy, is Russia's biggest enemy
Let's start the daily thread in the traditional manner with the link for the start of Tuesday's thread.
A lot more destruction on both sides, as Putin grovels in China. Click, but remember to come back for today's news...
Welcome to THE daily thread on Day 1546 of the war.
Russia is showing small signs of desperation.
More economic woes, more Ukraine air attacks deep inside Russia, a desperation to strengthen ties with allies and having to make new nuclear threats.
All the news in one place:
Here's the link back to the start of Monday's thread for those catching up.
A day when Russia lost more equipment, including a helicopter, but also bombed the hell out of Dnipro, while the EU looks for a lead negotiator to meet Putin.
One thing I learned last night I'll repost here as very few people saw it last night, and for Ukraine watchers it's very interesting and potentially important.
Will Zelenskyi dare fire Zaluzhnyi so he has no platform in the run up to an election?
I've now had confirmation of one fatality in Russia's attack on Kyiv.
The injury count is now up to 16.
This is a video from first responders, trying to rescue those trapped in a collapsed apartment building in the Darnytskyi district.
Air alerts are beginning to be lifted in more regions of Ukraine.
Among those is Khmelnytskyi, where there was a drone swarm on the military airbase. No damage is reported.
Hello again. It's the daily Ukraine thread on Day 1540 of Russia's full invasion of its peaceful neighbour, which never threatened nor ever fired a shot at Russia, until after the original 2014 invasion.
All the big news in one place, every single day. It's what I do!
Tuesday saw a late flurry by Ukrainian drones in Russia, while earlier the Terrorist State was having problems with self-starting fires.
Loads of other interesting stories in a near 50-post thread - missed anything? Click and scroll now:
A big daytime drone attack on Ukraine is ongoing as I type.
Explosions have been heard in Kyiv - air defence shooting them down as far as I can tell so far. About 30 Russian drones are attacking the region and city.
Day 1530 of the war in Europe.
After almost going through the night, it's a late start for me today, but details are now in from another dramatic night.
More civilians murdered in Ukraine, more Russian drones in NATO territory and more Russian ships hit.
Lots to catch up on..
We fell well short of 15k views yesterday despite a very long thread.
We ended with late night drone waves by Ukraine, while earlier on Saturday Russia was hitting buses and trains in another big daytime attack as Putin gets increasingly desperate.
The morning after the night before. A dreadful 24 hours for Ukraine as Terrorism rained down on all four of 🇺🇦's biggest cities.
Russia acts with impunity. Putin & his commanders have got away with war crimes for 4 years, so what will change?
Here's the🧵for Day 1513
As I type, BSky is down, which causes problems as it's much easier to simul-post than go back & repost everything later.
So, like the old days before fascism took over here, I'm on X (itter) only.
But these problems are infinitesimally small compared to 1000s in Ukraine today.
A pretty astonishing 24 hours of round-the-clock day and night attacks from Russia. Trying to exhaust Ukraine's air defence missiles and also exhaust the operators too, no doubt.
Many, many civilian deaths and injuries.
This is how it unfolded..
