The #SAF-#RSF war across #Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡© is not just a power struggle between #Burhan and #Hemedti, it is a clash of two military generations. Two vastly different cultures of warfare, each with a desire to dominate Sudan and have the other one be the scapegoat of decades of misery. Image
Burhan represents the old guard, the generals who took power in 1989 and have basically ruled #Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡© ever since. The SAF is a responds to ower struggles with coups and to rebellions with sieges and bombardments. It is a classic Arab military, similar to the EGA πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬or the SAA πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡Ύ Image
Hemedti is the challenger. He represents the warlord generation, his irregular RSF was founded from the "Janjaweed" militias, which were created to do the SAF's dirty work.

RSF militants would destroy village after village in rebellious areas, slaughter thousands of civilians. Image
For years the RSF functioned as subordinate to the SAF, being the enforcer of the military by doing the things regular army units didn't have the stomach to do, like ethnically cleansing areas, slaughtering protesters, enforcing a coup in the streets.

But no more. Image
It is said that Hemedti never supported the 2021 coup and only begrudgingly enforced it by keeping order in the streets. He knew the #SudanCoup was doomed to fail.

But while Burhan was busy running the show Hemedti build his own empire, one of thousands of motivated mercenaries Image
This military showdown could be described as Bashir's revenge. The former Sudanese dictator created several competiting branches of the armed forces (SAF,RAF,NISS), figuring a divided military could never overthrow him & rule in his stead.

It turns out he was only partly wrong. Image
And so now we've had reached the logical conclusion of a collision years in the making. Both leaders know that eventually someone will have to take the fall for the years of misery and bloodshed, both during the Bashir era and the coup years that came after it. Image
When reading the news please don't think any of these two military factions represent the people of #Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©. The Sudanese people represent themselves, brave and peaceful. Often the victims of criminals with guns but despite that unapologetic about change and unafraid to dream. Image

#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: residents of #Khartoum woke up this morning to the sound of gunfire and plumes of smoke rising into the air as clashes appear to have erupted in the capital city.

These armed confrontations follow weeks of rising tensions between the SAF and RSF military factions.
#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: many Sudanese see loyalists of the former #Bashir regime as being behind the recent tensions, sowing chaos as a way to derail any transition process and attempt a possible return to power dabangasudan.org/en/all-news/ar…
#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: more footage if gunfure and rising smoke in the #Khartoum area.

#Palestine πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ: horribly bloody day in the occupied #WestBank today as Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinians and injured over 100 with live ammunition during a raid in the city of #Nablus.

Ages of those killed range from 16 to 72 years old.
#Palestine πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ: as this CCTV footage shows some of the Palestinians who were killed today were civilians.

Like this man who was running away from gunfire when an Israeli sniper struck him down
#Palestine πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ: another civilian who was killed by the Israeli forces was 72-year-old Adnan Baara. He was shot in the old center of #Nablus.

He had no affiliation to Lion's Den or any armed group. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: during a speech today #RSF warlord #Hemedti was trying to save his own skin by saying he regretted his role in the #SudanCoup.

He stated the coup of October 25th was a mistake which opened the door for the former regime (Bashir loyalists) to return to power. Image
#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: meanwhile #Khartoum based Resistance Committees are calling for anti-military protests on 21 February. Image

#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: a deal has been reached in order to end the #SudanCoup which has been going on for over a year now.

Both the #FFC and the military have agreed to a 24-month transition, under the leadership of a civilian PM, with elections at the end.

But there's a but πŸ‘‡
#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: just as with the previous transition deal there is very little that holds either #Burhan or #Hemedti to honor their promises, meaning the country is and remains very vulnerable to another #SudanCoup at any moment.

There is also no mention of any reform of the military
#Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©: the Resistance committees, which were the backbone of the December Revolution have already voiced their opposition to the deal since it doesn't include any framework to bring justice to the 110+ protesters who were killed since the #SudanCoup.

#Syria: incredible scenes from the city of #Suwayda today as protesters have stormed the governorate office, setting fire to several regime vehicles and tearing down #Assad portraits
#Syria: this is what happened when regime forces tried to break up the on-going protest in the center of #Suwayda.
#Syria: regime forces eventually opened fire on the crowd in #Suwayda, killing at least one protester.

These videos are very reminiscent of 2011.
