🧵The #DebtCeilingDeal is headed to a vote today. Here’s what Tribes and Native people need to know: 1. It's critical that we reflect on how the GOP has held the global economy hostage to benefit their fossil fuel allies. This alone signals how broken this system is.
2. We are seeing cuts to Native/Indian programs within DOI, HUD and to Indian Education. To be clear, this is a disservice to American Indian People and Tribes as many of our programs have been historically underfunded.
3. A win for Tribes and Indigenous communities: IRA provisions for our communities remain intact as well as the $20B for Tribes in ARPA
4. Another win for Native People is that the deal protects new advance appropriations for IHS - although the flat funding for 2-4 years is essentially a cut due to inflation. There is more work to do.
5. A big concern for Tribes and Indigenous communities are the changes to #NEPA. While there was not a whole rewrite of NEPA, we believe the changes are unnecessary and based on myths. NEPA does not slow down 99% of projects, rather it gives voice to communities & upholds equity
6. Lastly, the inclusion of the approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in the debt ceiling is a clear giveaway to the fossil fuel industry. The fact of the matter, is that a pipeline approval has no place in this bill and is counter to the Biden Administration's climate goals.

Marty from NDN Collective interviews @kamaufranklin, the founder of @CommunityMvt and relative Mekko Chebon, Muscogee Creek Nation, Seminole to discuss the #StopCopCity movement and key demands.
@kamaufranklin at @CommunityMvt addresses both the local and global implications of #CopCity, “We say no to cop city because it’s a militarized police base which is going to harm our communities and harm our movements.”
.#StopWillow Update : As of today, March 7, 2023, the Biden Administration has not officially approved the Willow Project. However, the "Record of Decision" could be announced any moment now. So in the meantime, here are THREE ACTIONS you can take in this critical moment.
1. AMPLIFY these two letters from the Alaskan Native Villages of Nuiqsut & Anaktuvuk Pass! Both Tribes have written to @Interior to state their opposition to Willow & have asked for stronger consultation. Find both letters here: ndnco.cc/CPINLFN & ndnco.cc/WPTTCH
Local #Atlanta Interfaith Clergy holds a Press Conference to demand Mayor Andre Dickens #StopCopCity. The #ATL police are stating "outside agitators" are against this $90M project but that is a lie. Local residents of #ATL "do not want Cop City."
🧵 We heard the Interfaith Clergy loud and clear: "We don't want more policing and terrorizing of Black, Brown, and Indigenous bodies in our community." #StopCopCity
✊"All of this is a fight over land, which white people have been wagging since the beginning of time." #Landback#StopCopCity#Solidarity
🚨 Call-to-Action 🚨
President and CEO of NDN Collective, @NickTilsen, comes today with an urgent message to take action. He calls upon @POTUS to grant executive clemency to elder movement leader Leonard Peltier who tested positive for COVID-19 last Friday. #RiseUpForPeltier
Leonard Peltier (Anishinaabe & Dakota) has spent over 4 decades of his life behind bars for murder that he did not commit. Now, the prison system has failed to provide him adequate care & protection against #COVID19.
Peltier's story is the epitome of the systemic abuse that continues to target Indigenous people & Movement Leaders. #RiseUpForPeltier

Over the year there have been two Native American Presidential Forums where we brought together tribal leaders, citizens, political candidates to talk about issues of importance in Indian Communities, such as #MMIW , #ClimateChange, Media Representation. msnbc.com/all-in/watch/e…
