He was a normal 13 year old kid. Studied in one of the good schools in town. Fortunately it wasclose enough to home.
So close that not only did he go to and return by cycle, he used to go home for lunch and make it back in time too.
But one day, fate had something terrible in
store for him.
He was struck by a speeding vehicle and suffered a head injury.
He was unconscious for approx 3 weeks and it was touch and go.
By God’s grace, he made it though and recovered from the accident.
He was back in school and over the course of next few months
was able to get back into the swing of things without losing an academic year.
The school was accommodating in terms of time allocated to him for the exams so he was able to complete his studies without any issues.
But trouble came as he was approaching his SSC 10th standard
Board exams.
There was no provision for extra time. Which left him with only one option.
To use a writer.
So in consultation with his teachers and the school principal, they identified a student from the 9th standard to do the same.
It basically meant
he would dictate and the writer merely was allowed to write.
School used to end early as it was a center for the 12th Std exams. So the writer used to go to his house and they would practice writing old papers. Also from the various coaching classes.
Soon it was time and the
duo was assigned a separate classroom and supervisor.
The 10th student was well prepared so the task went off smoothly.
Given that this was the mid 90’s and he was still having the after effects of the accident which limited his retention power, it was a miracle that he
scored a whopping 76%!
The writer missed 2 papers of his own final exam which he had to write separately after the normal exams were done. The teachers set special tests for him.
When he came to school to distribute pedhas,he made the writer accompany him with the principal’s
approval. He told every teacher “WE scored 76%!”
The boy’s family was extremely grateful to the writer for his help and treated him like a family member.
The boy recovered very well over the next 2 years and wrote his own 12th board exams and scored similarly well there also.
Over the next few decades, they went their separate ways.
The boy, who is now married and has a 15 year old daughter, has made a full recovery. He even rode a two wheeler for a few years.
Today he had come to a “Karyalay” for a wedding and saw his writer’s name on a signage
board across the street and rushed over in joy.
He introduced his daughter to the writer and made his do “vakun Namaskar” to the writer.
Both were very happy to see each other.
“I could not come across the street, see your name and not come see you” he said to the writer.
The boy in grey is Harshavardhan Deshpande. He is the protagonist of this thread.
Prior to 1859 Nagarathars worshipped a Vel (spear), a representation of Lord Muruga, under a tree. The Vel was kept under a Pipal tree (Arasa maram) at the bank of a tank (pond). Fresh water from the hill emerged as a waterfall and filled the tank.
The temple was built on 04.04.1859. Chettiars community bought the land, from the estate of Mr Oxley, the first Surgeon General of Singapore.
The temple in its original form was of a simple structure. In 1878, two separate sanctums were built for Lord Sundareswarar and

Sometime in the early 2000’s a young Maharashtrian musician realised that Marathi songs were not being played on the FM stations, as they were not commercially viable.
He decided to address this situation by making a landmark Marathi song.
He took a unique approach. He decided to make that the sole focus of his life.Over the next 18 months, he did not take up any project.
The other decision he took was that it would be done with the best singers, in the best recording studio and with the most talented musicians.
He also planned to do a mass funding for this mainly to create an awareness movement and able to do the best he can.
A friend of his came home and he ran this idea past her. She immediately gave him a ₹500 note and was one of his strongest advocates throughout the project.
Mumbai: the city of dreams, Local trains and now Metro, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar!
Must be a mammoth task to govern it and I was fortunate to get a first hand view of the flagship of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation today, thanks to @Khaki_Tours!
Most people will@say Mumbai was formed by the amalgamation of 7 islands, but in reality there were 23 of them.
A large part of the city is reclaimed land and 2/3 feet under sea level, which often causes flooding during monsoon, often unfairly blamed totally on the BMC.
The BMC as we know it extended upto Mahim and Sion till 1950, when it was extended upto Jogeshwari and Mankurd/Bhandup.
Later it was extended upto Borivali/Dahisar and Mulund a few years later.
But first we must go a few centuries back to understand the history!
