Pretty psyched to see an Asian American woman rocking (and as an athlete, too!), being unabashedly proud of herself, and being recognized by the nation.
Also, I’m having a lot of feelings at seeing so many Asian Americans in the spotlight the Olympics. I remember what seeing JUST Kristi Yamahuchi meant to me in 1992! And then JUST Michelle Kwan in 1998 and 2000! And now seeing a bunch—😭❤️
Here’s a nice roundup of Asian Am athletes representing Team USA, from @angryasianman:
And here’s a dynamite piece by @nicole_soojung on what Kristi Yamaguchi meant to her as a young Asian Am girl: nytimes.com/2016/03/31/mag…
A great profile of Korean American snowboarder Chloe Kim, on ESPN: espn.com/espnw/feature/…
And another great piece on Chinese American figure skater Nathan Chen: espn.com/espn/feature/s…
If this thread is going to get that much attention, then I may as well share some links about Asian Am olympians, yes?
I honestly can’t handle Chloe Kim taking gold. So happy for her. And how adorable are her parents?!
Imagine being 17, and that good at anything.
It gets even more amazing when you remember that at 13, Chloe Kim was good enough to go to the Olympics, just not OLD enough. 😳
