I’m definitely not the manager of the year, but recently I’ve felt the urge to share some experience and I’m failing to get blog posts out. So, here’s for a series of tweet that hopefully will be useful to some 🤗
#techmngt 1/ People don’t do what they’re told, but what they believe is right, which makes communicating the vision in a clear and convincing way a huge part of your job.
#techmngt 2/ If your team trusts you they will never blame you for failing. They will however always blame you for not trying.
#techmngt 3/ Prioritize people and culture over tech. A healthy team will find its way through broken tech. A healthy tech won’t survive a broken team.
#techmngt 4/ As a manager, your speech is amplified. While motivational messages will have higher impact, so will everything else: never show your team frustration or discouragement.
#techmngt 5/ New managers tend to be either over-friendly or over-authoritarian. Finding a sweet spot where you inspire trust and confidence while being assertive and capable of telling the hard truths when necessary takes time.
