Here's Kerri Harris, a Democratic candidate in Delaware, in her own words:
We don't have a functioning democracy, and one of the clearest pieces of evidence for that claim is the fact that it is so difficult to gain political office if you're poor.
And I don't mean middle class. I mean poor. It should be possible for a single mom working at McDonald's to launch a viable campaign for office.
Instead, campaigns are luxury items, and the poor are reliant on inconsistent allies who lobby on their behalf as it's politically convenient.
