I don't know @KassyDillon well - I've met her, we've talked on Twitter, we're from the same high school (many years apart), but man, what she had to go through at Mt Holyoke makes my blood boil. And I have a few things to say about it. Mute now if you don't want to hear them. /1
And yes, I know she voted for Trump. After four years at Mount Holyoke, maybe I would, too. Because this isn't just left vs right: this is snotty elite groupthink at its worst. This is where Trump draws strength - as I warned in a piece in the Daily Beast back in 2016. /2
And yes, I'm sure many of you are shocked to hear *me* raging about elitism. I am happily the harshest critic of the working class - because I come from that class and I know how ghastly their stooping to Trumpism is. I know what it's costing them, in every way. /3
But hyper-privileged college students pissing on the Constitution and whining about their fellow students is a big part of how we ended up in this mess in the first place. Our schools and universities are failing in their duty to create civic-minded citizens and leaders. /4
Teachers, and later, professors are too willing to countenance this kind of behavior instead of giving these spoiled hysterics a solid talking-to about adulthood and responsibility. We are infantilizing generation after generation of students instead of shaping adults. /5
Kassy is the one who made "The Triggering" video go viral. Good. America needed to see how our therapeutic models of education are crippling young people instead of maturing them. (Whatever you think of Kassy's politics, I know this from meeting her: she's a grown-up.) /6
I am brutal on the vices of the working class because they break my heart. The working class was once the foundation of a great nation, instead of the resentful ignoramuses they've become. But the privileged and educated have also abandoned their civic duty. /7
Our educated classes are becoming nothing more than whiny, fragile brats no better than the angry, stupid nincompoops they deride out in the Rust Belt. This is why America is in peril: because we're now loaded down with basket cases at both ends. /8
And the liberal enablers of the people who hassled Dillon are merely the political isomer of the Trump morons wearing "F*** your feelings" t-shirts. A nation of drama queens all freaking out at each other. So good for Kassy for just toughing it out and letting it roll off her. /9
The hatred for education that Trump and his ilk are instilling in the working class is utterly dangerous. But the behavior of people at places like Mt. Holyoke gives a lot of anecdotal fuel to the Trumpist cause. /10
The bottom line is that unless these two groups of people - the working class and tomorrow's educated class - grow the f*** up, we're doomed. 11/x
