Here @grenfellinquiry We are now going to hear commemorations for Kamru Miah, Rabeya Begum, Mohammed Hamid, Mohammed Hanif, Husna Begum from flat 142 Grenfell Tower, #GrenfellInquiry
The commemoration will be given by the surviving son, Mohammed Hakim, the only surviving member of his immediate family. #GrenfellInquiry
We begin with a very short prayer. Mohammed starts by talking about his father, Kamru Miah. #GrenfellInquiry
Mohammed tells us about his father's career as a chef, working in restaurants, after leaving Bangladesh. He was born in 1986, followed by his brother Mohammed Hamid, and then his youngest brother Mohammed Hanif, then his youngest sister, Husna Begum. #GrenfellInquiry
'My father was an amazing father, a dedicated Muslim...He was good to my mother, as well as to us, his children, and nothing mattered more than his family and his religion.' #KamruMiah #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that the family initially lived in Chelsea, and used to love Battersea Park, and the peacocks in Holland Park #KamruMiah #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that his father loved nature programmes, and James Bond movies. He 'was a humble caring honest and loyal kind man. He was well respected by his community...He was adored by people due to his gentle and sweet nature.' #KamruMiah #GrenfellInquiry
'He was a bubbly person, full of life, energetic...He was a great man and a father, he gave me so much in life...He taught me the values and lessons of life, taught me why it is so important to be respectful to others.' #KamruMiah #GrenfellInquiry
'I just wish he was still here. Not a second of the day goes by when I don't miss him. Love you, Dad. Miss you a lot.'#KamruMiah #GrenfellInquiry
Mohammed is now moving on to talk about his mother, #RabeyaBegum. 'She scared away the monsters from under our bed...we always felt safe with her. She was the person we would go to as an adult.' #GrenfellInquiry
'Anything cooked by my mum's hands tasted delicious...Lamb curry was my favourite, and my mum would make it best. She was full of love.' #RabeyaBegum #GrenfellInquiry
'She was deeply loved...she was teh most important person in my life, and in my heart and soul...I will forever miss her dearly, and a piece of my heart will always be missing...I love you mum...I want you to know that you will always be remembered.' #RabeyaBegum #GrenfellInquiry
Mohammed is now going to read about his brother, #MohammedHamid #GrenfellInquiry. 'He loved living. He wanted to do so much...He was my father's guardian angel, and was always traipsing after him after dad had multiple strokes..' #MohammedHamid #GrenfellInquiry
'He was my mother's friend...he loved us a lot...he was a bit of a joker too, and would crack funny one liners only he could come up with.' #MohammedHamid #GrenfellInquiry
'He was a trooper, a lionheart, brave and loyal...He would be there with you through thick and thin.' #MohammedHamid #GrenfellInquiry
'The world has lost a magnificent soul...Love you always bro, miss your jokes and the fun times we had.' #MohammedHamid #GrenfellInquiry
**Mohammed has just read out commemorations for his mother, father, oldest brother, and is now going to read about his younger brother, Mohammed Hanif. #MohammedHanif #GrenfellInquiry
Hanif was creative from a young age, was brilliantly talented in design, and adored animation...he would often create beautiful pictures, and loved watching movies, sci fi and Marvel. #MohammedHanif #GrenfellInquiry
Despite being on earth for a short period of time, he touched many hearts...'Love you little bro, wish you didn't have to go so soon.' #MohammedHanif #GrenfellInquiry
We are now hearing about Husna, who was a brilliant spirit, he says. #HusnaBegum #GrenfellInquiry
She loved creative writing and cooking, she was cheeky and had a great spirit. 'In our family, she was the perfect little star..Loved you more than you ever knew, you were my baby sister.' #HusnaBegum #GrenfellInquiry
Mohammed says he is extremely proud of his family for staying close together in their last moments, and he is proud of his siblings for not leaving his parents, even though they might have had a chance to escape. #HusnaBegum #GrenfellInquiry
'As loving children, they chose to stay with their parents. Mum, dad, Hamid, Hanif, Husna, I will love you always.' #GrenfellInquiry
** Mohammed Hakim has just read commemorations for 5 members of his family. He says that the fire has made him an orphan, but that he could not be prouder of his family. The Chair commends his tribute, says he admires Mohammed's courage. A very long round of applause.
It's hard to imagine how difficult life must be for Mohammed Hakim just now - how much he must have suffered over the past year, and now has to participate in the Inquiry too. -- We are taking a break for lunch and will be back at 2pm.
Fathia was from Flat 206 Grenfell Tower. The portrait is being given by Wafa, who describes her as a 'sister, friend, godmother'. She describes Fathia as a source of wisdom, widely respected by the community. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia was a 'fierce defender' of education, one of the people who ran a prize-winning school in RBKC, who worked to 'think and maintain' links between Sudanese and British culture. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
'I would like to say a few words about my sister, who lived in flat 206 Grenfell Tower...She was 10 years older than me, and she was like a mother to me...We came from a large family, and Fathia was my closest sibling in age.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
'When I was very young, we went to live with our brother in Khartoum.' Wafa says that when Hayat was younger, she was the victim of a fire. Fathia became her main supporter, as a victim of fire and a disabled person. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia supported Hayat through University, looking after her sister after she was disabled by injuries sustained through fire. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia supported and encouraged Hayat to get an education, we hear that Fathia helped to support her uncle's children after he died. 'She had a beautiful soul...she was well known for her beautiful Sudanese cooking.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear people missed her when she moved to London, and that when she came back to London, 'People were excited to see her again.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia was a brilliant seamstress, creating beautiful dresses, and also very good at making things from leather. She had learned to sew from Italian nuns. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
Fathia could also make jewellery, she was well known for being very creative and when Fathia married, they would still see each other every day. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that life was hard for Fathia after her husband's death, that she had a farm some distance from Khartoum, she kept chickens and grew feed for cattle. She did this to support her children, as she was paid very little as a teacher. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that at one point the government tried to take away the farm at one point, but that she fought to get it back. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia had to move to the Uk because of difficulties with the political situation in Sudan. She moved to England, then to @rbkc, and then to #GrenfellTower #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that after the sisters were reunited in Syria after a long gap, they stayed in one hotel room, and just wanted to be with each other. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
Fathia built a little house for Hayat to stay in, as she had been living with her brother's family, and needed her own space to have independence. 'I think she always felt responsible for me, and she wanted me to be comfortable.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
The final time Fathia went to Sudan was between winter 2016 and March 2017. It was an amazing time, and they travelled around. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We hear that Fathia felt safe in London, but that 'this feels like an illusion. Our trust in this country has been destroyed.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
'This was a terrible shock to me.' This is a double tragedy for Hayat, as she was a victim of fire. 'I feel lonely, and I cannot sleep.' #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
Wafa is now going to read this again, in Arabic. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
There is a long round of applause for Wafa, who has just delivered the same commemoration twice, once in English, once in Arabic. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
She hugs Hayat, who has sat with her hands in front of her face throughout. It was very moving to hear that tribute twice. #FathiaElsanosi #GrenfellInquiry
We will be back here tomorrow at the slightly earlier time of 9.30am. One of the things that stands out from today is how far reaching the repercussions are, how many different communities in different parts of the world affected. #GrenfellInquiry
