I voted against the Ford govt’s Get it Done (Wrong) Act because it will gut environmental protections to build the unnecessary $10+ Billion highway 413 that will destroy 2,000 acres of prime farmland, 400 acres of the Greenbelt and 85 waterways.

#onpoli

🧵 We could reduce traffic congestion tomorrow if we simply paid the tolls to get truckers off the 401 and onto the underused 407.

Drivers would notice the difference tomorrow, not a decade from now.

🧵 Even though I publicly called for MPP Jama to remove her tweet, I voted no to a motion that would censure her and prevent her from speaking in the legislature.

#onpoli I believe this motion was too sweeping and that voters in Hamilton Centre should decide whether MPP Jama should be their voice at Queen’s Park, not me. In a democracy we should lean on the side of defending an elected MPP’s right to speak in the House.

🧵The Landlord and Tenant Board is broken – and neither renters nor landlords can afford any more delays.

I support the Ombudsman’s recommendations to repair the inequities embedded in the LTB.

But to protect Ontario’s tenants, we must go much further.

#onpoli For years, advocates on the front lines have been calling for real solutions to a broken rental system. Solutions like the ones Ontario Greens have long-championed:

Reinstate rent controls on all units to protect tenants from being unfairly priced out of their homes;

🧵: Doug Ford’s refusal to act on the climate crisis is setting Ontario up for financial disaster. #onpoli #Climate impacts are already costing us billions annually. Meanwhile, the Ford government ramps up fossil gas generation, pushes ahead with #Highway413 and the #BradfordBypass, and plans to pave over the #Greenbelt.

In case they need reminding, I’ve compiled a list of all the times Doug Ford and his housing minister Steve Clark said they wouldn’t touch the #Greenbelt (caution: long 🧵 ahead): FORD, May 2018: Unequivocally we won’t touch the Greenbelt.

🧵I just voted NO to #Bill23, but unfortunately, despite widespread opposition, the government voted to pass expensive sprawl, higher property taxes and environmental destruction. #onpoli /1 #Bill23 will not address the housing crisis, and will do more harm than good. The @OntarioGreens housing plan and the govt's own task force put forward solutions that won't lead to expensive sprawl. The govt refuses—so I tabled the legislation for them. #onpoli /2

Today's FAO report is clear: Doug Ford is underspending on #Healthcare.

At a time when ERs across the province are closing due to staffing shortages, this is unacceptable.

I ask the Premier: If keeping emergency rooms open doesn’t warrant spending – what does? 1/

#onpoli It’s inexcusable to underspend on #healthcare while nurses & other healthcare workers are burnt out.

This failure to act is costing Ontarians.

Doug Ford needs to invest in the ppl who provide care, starting with #Bill124 and repealing it. /2

The cost of living is skyrocketing, inflation rates are going up. So why aren’t social-assistance rates too?

@OntarioGreens continue to call on the Premier to double the rates for #ODSP 1/4 #PWD have been asking for help during COVID, struggling to survive on a maximum of $1,169 a month — all while the price of food and housing is going through the roof.

Over the past year, the cost of shelter has gone up 4.8%, and food is up 3.9%. #onpoli 2/4
