🧵People from various Western countries are telling me they cannot believe the atrocities being committed by the Russian army (or more properly, terrorist forces) in Ukraine.
My response:
I tell them they should be angry at their major media outlets and their governments who under-informed or misinformed them about the reality of Russia for years.
It was no secret about how sick modern Russian society is. They knew. You were simply not told, or were lied to.

#Germany has reportedly rejected #Ukraie's request for military equipment.
Whatever the cause - "provocation of Russia" "undermining position of neutral mediator" "not wanting to get entangled" - it exposes a huge double standard in DE's approach to aggressor & innocent victim.>
Aggressor Russia gets it all. Siemens turbines supplied to RU-occupied Crimea, in violation of #EU-sanctions, to make RU occupation energy sustainable. No consequences except for a meaningless apology.

What we see in #Ukraine today is that people don't want to believe what they see with their own eyes, and what they hear directly from #Zelensky. The mix of people's hopefulness and Zelensky's #populism is blinding them to reality.
