In his early writings, he identified as a South Syrian
However, as more Jews arrived and bought land in #Israel, he shifted to a new form of local nationalism 2) In 1936 he established himself in Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany by making propagandistic radio broadcasts and by helping the Nazis recruit Muslims from Bosnia and the Caucauses to the Waffen SS

Despite pleas from human rights organizations, the Houthis continued shelling civilians, starving the population, and not allowing any humanitarian aid

Her family has lived in the Galilee continuously for over 2,000 years. She comes from a family of Cohanim who left #Jerusalem upon the destruction of the 2nd Temple and found safe haven in the town of Peki'in 2) Peki'in was a #Jewish village since the time of the Temple and is mentioned extensively throughout the Mishna and Talmud.
It is recorded that the influential Sage Rabbi Yehoshua and his many disciples set up their Yeshiva in Peki'in

🧵The #Cairo Geniza is a collection of 400,000 #Jewish manuscript fragments which were stored in the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Fostat #Egypt 🇪🇬
Spanning 6th-19th Centuries, the Geniza comprises the largest and most diverse collection of medieval manuscripts in the world 2) The Torah forbids throwing away writings containing the name of God. It was common to open personal letter with an invocation of God so this rule is not limited to religious materials
All such documents must be stored in a separate archive, and the buried in a cemetery

Rabbis expounded and debated the Torah without the benefit of recording the discussions or conclusions
Traditions were transferred from Rabbi to student, from parents to their children
1) People are trying to justify yesterday's horrific attack on Jews (as they exited synagoguge prayers during the holiest day of the week) by saying it took place in "East" #Jerusalem, a term made up by #Jordan when they occupied this land in 1948 2) Did you know that Batn Al-Hawa حي بطن الهوى the largest part of Silwan #Jerusalem was established by #Yemeni Jews in 1881? The land was purchased by the Ezrat Nidachim charity fund and included synagogues, yeshivas, and many homes

Our community first arrived in the Arabian peninsula prior to the destruction of the First Temple in #Jerusalem, over 2,500 years ago 2) Depite the geographic distance from other Jewish communities, Yemeni Jews preserved authentic traditions of Judaism as well as pronounication of the Hebrew language
As such, we are not Sephardic, but rather have our own unique branch of traditions

The high priest Tzadok (Kings I 2:35) along with his fellow Kohanim escaped to this distant Island and settled there. They carried stones from the altar as a memoir of the destruction

1) Tonight marks the holiday of Sig'd, an ancient tradition celebrated by Ethiopian Jews 50 days after Yom Kippur
Sigd marks the end of the high holidays, where the entire community fasts for 24 hours and makes a pilgrimage to Jerusalem the next day 2) Sig'd commemorates the acceptance of the Torah, and such, the community stands near the tallest mountain in #Jerusalem overlooking the Old City, and reads passages from the Torah, Prophets, and King David's Psalms

1) The Samaritans are an ancient ethnoreligious group, native to the Levant, that follow a unique interpretation of the Torah
I recently visited this amazing community on the holliday of Sukkot and got to see their unique traditions first hand 2) The Samaritans have their own version of the Torah, written in Old Hebrew script. They only follow the 5 books of Moses (with thousands of textucal differences). They do not follow the Prophets or the Oral Laws, hence the difference in traditions

Jews arrived in Iraq in 586 BCE, and later drafted the Talmud in the Babylonian cities of Pompedita, Nahrdeah, and Surah (modern day Fallujah ٱلْفَلُّوجَة) 2) Iraq was the home of the prophet Ezekiel
His tomb still stands to this day in the town of Al Kifl الكفل, and is the holiest site for Jews in Iraq
Iraqi Jews had a long-standing tradition spending passover near the tomb, and the site was well protected by Saddam Hussein
