#Onthisday in 1958, Russian poet and novelist, Boris Pasternak, won the @NobelPrize for Literature. The award, which proved to be a double-edged sword, had to be refused by the writer. Read on to find out why! (1/6) Following the Swedish Academy announcing him as 1958’s winner, Pasternak sent them the following telegram: “Immensely thankful, touched, proud, astonished, abashed.” But as luck would have it, he was forced to send them another telegram rejecting the honour just days later.
