One year ago today, it was similarly very hot. ☀️🌡

Ten days overdue, sick of consuming curry 🌶 & pineapple juice 🍍🍍🍍, I had reflexology to try to kickstart the labour process. 👣 (1/10) I had run out of ridiculous things to clean in the house (doorstep, fridge, wall beside the dishwasher 🙄) and was ready to meet my baby. (2/10) Spotless fridge, never been this clean before, nor will be again.

Key HoC vote just now. If passed, this secures debating time in Parliament on 25 June for MPs to pass a Brexit-related Bill, for example to prevent a future PM going ahead with a No Deal Brexit against the wishes of Parliament. Plan to ensure Parliament can stop No Deal defeated by 309 to 298. Tory MPs who voted against this despite knowing the catastrophe No Deal presents are putting party loyalty ahead of national interest. #StopBrexit

Six years ago, when I was Equalities Minister, I was due to attend a celebration of #IDAHOBIT with Ministers from a dozen EU countries (THREAD) #FlashbackFriday IDAHOBIT My colleague @lfeatherstone , who was leading the efforts on the Same Sex Marriage Bill, had initiated a document that called for action on LGBT+ rights, which was to be signed by the Ministers at this event. Thank you @IPPR for inviting me to speak at the launch of your new Centre for Economic Justice – and for those of you who missed it 👇🏾👇🏽👇🏿 Growing up in the 80s, Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop, was one of my heroes & inspiration for my early campaigning. I still keep a signed copy of her book Business as Unusual in my office in Parliament.

Today is the 4th anniversary of Shared Parental Leave - one of my proudest achievements as Employment Relations Minister.

SPL is good for families, good for children and good for equality in the workplace.

What better way to mark the day than with some wonderful dads & babies? The govt review of SPL is long overdue - as are the planned improvements. But I know how busy they are making a mess of Brexit, so I've done their homework for them. If govt wants to make work better for parents, all it needs to do is back my Bill. 👇🏼 Photo of HoC order paper with Employment Rights (Shared Parental Leave and Flexible Working) Bill listed

Looks like absolute scenes in Parliament yet again. Key amendment to secure time for Monday debate just being voted on. Big conflab at the clerks table instead of result being announced. Too close? Disputed figures? Andrea Leadsom now reading Erskine May... @ParlyApp Now all the huddles are behind the Speaker's Chair. Notable that apart from @amandamilling it's mainly men. Speaker in animated conversations. The official HoC photos are going to be quite something. Now point of order asking what on earth going on.

Study after study shows that if you're black, Asian or minority ethnic, you have to overcome so many more obstacles at school, at work & in life.

Research by Oxford Uni found that if you're BAME, you had to send 80% more job applications to get a positive response than if white Graphic of international day for elimination of racism This is unacceptable. No one in UK – or anywhere – should be held back in life because of their race.

On International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, I commit to do what it takes to make @LibDems a more diverse, inclusive party with more BAME elected reps.

May's Brexit deal defeated by 391 votes to 242.

We need a #PeoplesVote House of Commons screen showing division on EU Withdrawal Act PM confirms that there will be a vote tomorrow on whether to leave the EU with No Deal.

And that the government will allow a free vote on that.

Happy #IWD2019!

What will you do to make our world a more equal place?

I will ask more women to stand for election.

Share this & reply with your pledge.

Some ideas to get you started 👇

#BalanceforBetter #EqualPower #DeedsNotWords #AskHerToStand (1/n) Count the number of women standing as candidates or elected to office, speaking at events & writing articles.

Challenge parties, organisers and media outlets when they are not representative.

Fantastic first day at #SLDconf - started my speech with a random impromptu reference to the Sugababes, who @JamesHarr mentioned in his intro were top of the charts when I made my first appearance on @BBCQuestionTime in 2005. How time flies. And here is what else I covered... We've spent nearly 3yrs obsessed with Brexit, on top of 4yrs consumed by the issue of independence.

All this energy wasted on ideologically-driven crusades against our neighbours

@LibDems have always said that Scotland's better off in the UK & the UK is better off in the EU. Flags: EU, Union Jack and Saltire

The Prime Minister made much today of her plans to make 'legal commitments' to protect workers' rights after Brexit. Let me tell you what the Conservatives wanted to do when I was Minister for Employment Relations in the coalition government. (1/n) First, there was the Beecroft 'Report' - though it was really more like a crap GCSE essay attempt without proper evidence. It was written by a Tory donor, though, so they demanded the ideas in it were looked at.

🎉🎉🎉 Today Parliament will finally have the chance to introduce proxy voting - it's been nearly a year since the HoC first instructed the govt to get on with it. Like me last June (very pregnant & eating curries in a heatwave) it is long overdue... 🍍🌶🤰(1/5) Last July, when I was nursing 2 week old baby Gabriel, the Tory party chairman broke our pair, cheating my constituents out of their representation. 2 weeks ago, @TulipSiddiq felt she had no choice but to delay her C-section to vote on Brexit (2/5)

SUCCESS! In response to my Urgent Question, govt has announced it will bring forward proxy voting for MPs - as early as next week, dinosaurs permitting 🦕🦕🦕. Good debate on the issue - especially loved all the dads speaking from the heart about the guilt parents feel. Delighted that the govt has agreed to give time to the proxy vote debate on Monday, which means a lone 🦕 won't be able to block it. Thank you @andrealeadsom

It's nearly a year since the HoC agreed there should be proxy voting to enable baby leave for MPs. Since then 5 MPs have given birth, and others have become new dads. (1/5) The Government's delay on putting the detailed plans to a vote has already had serious consequences, as we saw last week with Tulip Siddiq delaying her C-section to vote on the Brexit deal (BTW congratulations @TulipSiddiq & welcome to the world Raphael!)

There is no Brexit that works for the whole of the UK. There is no Brexit that keeps our economy strong and jobs safe. There is no Brexit that gives us first-class public services.

We need a way out of this mess.
We need a #PeoplesVote (1/4) Unusually, I agree with Dominic Raab - May's deal is worse than staying in the EU. And I agree with the PM and the EU when they say this is the best Brexit on offer. (2/4)

Just how low will your govt stoop @theresa_may? When @andrealeadsom delayed proxy voting motions, she *assured* those of us who were pregnant that we would be paired when necessary. Today your govt broke that agreement - @BrandonLewis paired with me but voted. Desperate stuff. Don't try any nonsense about a mistake - this is calculated, deliberate breaking of trust by govt whips @JulianSmithUK to win at all costs. Brandon abstained in afternoon divisions, but voted in the two crunch votes after 6pm. There's a word for it - cheating.

Today I viewed the 'sectoral analysis' in the @DExEUgov Brexit reading room. I was handed two hefty lever arch files. During my slot I managed to look at 24 of the 39 separate papers. (1) Of these 24 sectors, the papers show that in 21 of them, industry has concerns about skills gaps, attracting talent and labour mobility post-Brexit. (2)
