🧵 I stand with President Biden & our NC Democratic congressional delegation in condemning the terrorist attacks by Hamas in Israel. Brutal violence has no place in our society and my heart and prayers are with everyone affected by this horrible war.
But, I will not stand with Speaker Moore in his efforts yesterday to distract from the damage that was occurring to democracy in North Carolina with the veto overrides of five destructive pieces of legislation.
Our system of elections & separation of powers are under attack.

#nced 🧵: This graphic has been circulating on social media with an impassioned plea from teachers- it has been shared over 2000 times.
Why are veteran teachers continually offended by what is happening in NC? Just look at this: ⬇️
The teacher pay scale freezes between years 15-25 & again after a small adjustment in year 25. This means other than small increases, teachers are locked in after year 15 to the same pay. There is no true growth. What other job exists where you aren’t paid for experience?! ☹️

🧵 Many people have asked me “what EXACTLY needs to be done in NC to preserve abortion rights?”
Here’s my answer:
➡️ NC House has 120 seats.
Dems have 51 of them.
We broke the Republican supermajority in 2018 & now we can uphold vetoes. We’ve done that over 40 times since then.
➡️ NC Senate has 50 seats.
Dems have 22 of them.
To hold our numbers and preserve the ability to sustain Governor Cooper’s vetoes of bad bills, we to keep all 51 House & 22 Senate seats. 💪
If we lose 3 House seats & 2 in the Senate, we will slip back into the superminority. 😔

🧵 I am beyond disappointed and angry with the #RoevWade decision. I am proud to be a pro-choice legislator and am ready for the fight ahead to advocate for the right to an abortion because abortion is healthcare. #AbortionIsEssential#ncpol
Important: Abortion is STILL LEGAL in states across the country, including North Carolina.
Now, more than ever, we must ensure we have pro-choice champions in our state legislature who will be strong advocates for the right to choose. Follow @LilliansList@VoteChoice@emilyslist

Today, I filed the #RBG Act to remove barriers to accessing abortion care in North Carolina. Our state has the fourth-highest number of restrictions in the country. These barriers serve no medical purpose. Instead, they interfere in decisions about whether & when to have a child.
The #RBG Act will expand access to healthcare, which is especially important during a pandemic. The public health crisis has limited access dramatically at a time when family planning is more important than ever for many people. #ReproductiveRights

🧵Right now, North Carolina Republicans are having a closed-door meeting on our unemployment system -- without a single House Democrat in the room. Since they refused to put a Democrat on the committee from the NC House, here’s the truth about unemployment:
North Carolina “Republicans made the deepest cuts to any unemployment insurance system in the country” -- and now we are ranked dead last in the amount of benefits folks get. Now they are in a closed-door meeting trying to fix the system they broke.

@NCHouseSpeaker just stated in session that today’s Redistricting Committee Meeting (which was supposed to start at 9 am) is the only opportunity for in person public comment on the final NC House maps. However, the maps have not been posted yet & no one knew this until now. 🤷♀️
@RepDavidRLewis states 2 minutes per Speaker & new maps are just now being distributed. As you can see, not many members of the public are here. @CommonCauseNC@LWVofWake@LWVNCarolina@democracync
