If you are in crisis, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. @NBCLX contributors @ColinSytsma & Justin Goodrum explore the cultural & historical reasons why mental help is so often lacking in the Black community. #mentalhealth #MentalHealthAccess I figured I would take this moment to say that this will be the last public interview/comment I will provide regarding gun violence, GVP, mental health, suicides, and my story for the foreseeable future. I have done this heartbreaking work for the last 8 years of my life.

Wisconsin’s 4 Republican “Representatives” voted no. They voted against you, your neighbors, those that need help. This is why you MUST vote to replace them in November. @WisDems #WILeg

Grothman CD 6
Sensenbrenner CD 5
Steil CD 1 Here are the candidates running against those terrible 4 Republicans:

Hey @taylor4arizona, I sincerely wish you are able to get the help you need. Substance abuse isn’t a partisan issue and folks need to see that it is ok to admit that one needs help & that life will continue. I hope you’re ok & that you’re able to beat this. Wishing you the best In case you’re wondering why I, a proud Democrat, tweeted at @taylor4arizona:
1. I’m human before I’m partisan
2. I’ve run for Congress myself & know the grind that it is & the stress it inflicts on your life
3. I was once addicted to opioids too.

STATEMENT FROM @MIKEBLOOMBERG @Mike2020:

“President Trump’s deleted tweet is the latest example of his endless efforts to divide Americans. I inherited the police practice of stop-and-frisk, and as part of our effort to stop gun violence it was overused. By the time I left office, I cut it back by 95%, but I should've done it faster and sooner. I regret that and I have apologized — and I have taken responsibility for taking too long to understand the impact it had on Black and Latino communities.”

.@MikeBloomberg was wrong. Period. There’s no debating that. I don’t excuse nor absolve him of his comments or of the stop and frisk policy. He’s acknowledged it, apologized for it, and has subsequently developed a diverse base of support in endorsements, staff... and volunteers including growing black support. People have to weigh this election and vote their priorities. Many voters have seen their ideological favorites drop out and have now prioritized defeating Trump along with electing Dems up and down the ballot.

I don’t remember my mom, Joyce, at all. I was only 20 months old when she shot & killed herself.

So, my #MomentsThatSurvive are... #MomentsThatSurvive

My friend @ELaffGarb. There are few people in my life that I know who would legit drop everything and come running to help me. Erica is one of those people. She called me on what would’ve been my mom’s 63rd birthday. Erica say on the phone

On this #MLKDay, it’s worth remembering what #MLK had to say about guns: #VirginiaRally swap.stanford.edu/20141218230026…
A thread 👇🏾 After the bombings, many of the officers of my church and other trusted friends urged me to hire a bodyguard and armed watchmen for my house. When my father came to town, he concurred with both of these suggestions.

40 years ago, she left a note … drove on the freeway … pulled over and sat in the car by herself. She put the black revolver to her head and pulled the trigger. My mom, Joyce, was only 27 years old. everytown.org/tribute/khary-… She was pronounced dead at 8:34 a.m. “Bullet wound of head … shot self with revolver” is what the death certificate says. 40 years … I have a lifetime of memories clouded with pain rather than a lifetime of memories of her and I. everytown.org/tribute/khary-…

I wanted to share my suicide survival story for the first time. Reliving these brutal, painful and private moments isn’t easy. But it is cathartic to share it. So, here goes... #WorldSuicidePreventionDay The 1st time I attempted suicide was in August of 1996. I was 18 & entering my freshman year of college. Pre-season has just started. I accepted the scholarship to the local college b/c my then-girlfriend told me if I accepted an out-of-State scholarship, that we’d break up

Me and @shaunking don’t always agree. But he’s still my friend. And I’m a PROUD a Democrat.
But what happened over the last few days regarding the climate change debate within the @TheDemocrats is unacceptable. And I’m not alone in this; the issue deserves a dedicated debate. I don’t enegage in “the establishment” level debates. But I don’t accept these results. I’m proud to stand with @sunrisemvmt on this issue. I’m an asthmatic, I DONT HAVE A CHOICE. I respect my chairman @TomPerez immensely. Be he is wrong on this issue.

I'm not mad at #DianneFeinstein nor the young people that spoke w her. I am disappointed that this episode was turned into soemthing that it wasn't. I am glad that more young people are getting engaged in the process. But I am bothered that there are those who... ...seek to craft a narrative that isn't real; those that WANT a controversy. Can you argue that #DiFi could've been more patient during the front end of the video? Sure. She should've been. But to make this into a situation where she needs to resign is absolutely ridiculous.

I’ve been told the same thing that @KamalaHarris has heard, that I’m somehow not “black enough” b/c I married a white woman (& she a white man). I am very fortunate to have been able to marry my best friend & someone that loves me,
w/o reservation.
@douglasemhoff My wife has been by my side during some dark moments as I struggled thru depression. She’s stood w me when I ran for Congress. When I’ve lacked courage, she’s always there to pick me up. My wife is the best thing that has happened to me. I’m lucky to I get to be her husband ❤️

On this #MLKDay, don't just tweet famous quotes & then go on about your day. I ask that you live in #MLK's spirit and live out his words. Work to help those that are oppressed, to help those in need. Work to eliminate racism in all its forms. Be kind. Be just. #IHaveADream #MLK's #IHaveADream speech:
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Never give up hope. When we give up, there are countless others whose lives will be hurt far more than they are now. This is when we find out what we are made of. Get involved & channel your anger into electing candidates at all levels of government. Let's elect candidates who will fight for universal healthcare, who will fight to end gun violence, who will fight for women's rights, who will fight for our union brothers & sisters, who will fight for #Dreamers & those who want to come to America for a better life

On this day, June 25th, 1952, my mom, Joyce was born. Today would've been her 66th birthday. But sadly, she will forever be 27 b/c she shot & killed herself on Sept 8th 1979. This is the 39th birthday that I don't get to spend with her. This the 39th year that I won't get to sing #HappyBirthday to her. Its only the 4th year that I've actually known her birthdate. Thanks to the @AMarch4OurLives students & an audience of strangers, I finally got to enjoy singing my mom Happy Birthday.

I got an orange tattoo for my friend @fred_guttenberg whose daughter Jaime was shot & killed in the Parkland mass shooting. I didn't get the honor of meeting Jaime, but I've met Fred & I proudly stand with him. It's position right under Dawn's name!
#NeverAgain #NeverAgainMSD The good pain of this tattoo is nothing compared to the never-ending pain Fred & his family have to now endure. This weekend is #WearOrange weekend & I thought it was fitting that I got an orange tattoo to start the weekend & to honor Jaime. #SurvivorStrong

Last night, I joined students & community members from Madison for a vigil for the #ParklandShooting. This is my speech: We stand here today, not as community leaders, teachers, students, government officials, or bystanders... we stand here as members of humanity, as guardians of the good in this world.
