1/8. Today, in an interview with CNN, Prime Minister Carney suggested that he wishes to see a “Zionist Palestinian” state. 2/8. To be clear, in all of Canada’s foreign policy history, we are not aware of a Canadian Prime Minister suggesting that a Palestinian state needs to be “Zionist”.

1/ Canada’s new Foreign Affairs Minister, Anita Anand, on her first day, has rightly pointed out that Israel has been using food as a political tool amidst the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

This is an important statement.

1/5. This #Montreal woman decided to tell a fellow Montréaler that she should be raped in front of her children and dragged through the streets simply because she had a #Palestinian flag on her car. The attacker also allegedly rammed the woman's car. 2/5. And there are many more incidents like this. We are receiving a disturbing amount of reports of #Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism from across #Canada.

(1/5). Protections must be put in place to ensure the safety of all Canadians from all threats, both foreign and domestic.  

Following the announcement in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister, NCCM is calling for the killers of a fellow Canadian to be brought to justice.





(2/5). Along with the powerful calls for diplomatic consequences, an end to intelligence sharing and a public inquiry mentioned by the @WorldSikhOrg of Canada (WSO). We are calling for four additional actions:

1/4. In the aftermath of the tragedy that took #OurLondonFamily, we asked for policy changes to address #Islamophobia and hate in #Ontario and beyond. 2/4. Today, another step has been implemented towards positive change. We welcome the Government of Ontario's commitment towards the City of #London's Anti-Hate Response Pilot project.

This week, many of us started Ramadan with the news of Ahmed, a young man in #Ottawa, being berated by a guard associated with @VIA_Rail, for praying inside a train station. The right to worship freely is a cornerstone of Canadian society and democracy. The guard's actions amounted to blatant #Islamophobia.

1/4. You probably saw what happened to Ahmed, a young man who was berated recently for praying inside Ottawa's VIA Rail station, by a guard associated with the latter.

No one deserves to be treated like that.

1/6. The government of #India's media and Internet blackout in Punjab (home to a large Sikh population) should not be tolerated by the international community.

It's time #Ottawa takes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to task for this.

UPDATE ON QURAN DESECRATION INCIDENT:

Earlier this month, we were made aware of a disturbing incident of a student desecrating the Quran at a public school in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. @kprschools We have been working closely with impacted communities to address serious ongoing issues at the school and board levels.

1/7. NCCM and the CCLA (@cancivlib), alongside allies, are at the #Quebec Court of Appeal today to challenge #Bill21, the law that bars certain public servants from wearing religious symbols at work.

It must be struck down! 2/7. This law has demonstrated that as of right now, minorities in this country effectively don’t have rights. They only have permissions. Our government can take away our rights without any justification.

Let's call @PierrePoilievre's statement what it is: an attempt to misrepresent what actually happened. The truth about Islamophobia matters - after the London terror attack, after the Quebec City Mosque attack, after the IMO attack. Let's clarify the record.
