Much of the reporting on European farmers’ protests point to environmental regulations, in particular the Farm-to-Fork strategy (F2F), as the source of anger. Not only is that narrative incomplete, it is also dangerous. A thread on why farmers aren’t a monolithic group. 🧵

These photos were taken on Feb 1 at Brussels’ Place du Luxembourg where long lines of parked tractors and a large contingent of frustrated farmers took over the square under the shadow of the European Parliament. (2)

At the 50th session of @UN_CFS and @WFPChief said in video message how #hunger levels are rising globally. They've had to cut food aid rations around the world and choose to feed "the starving" instead of "the hungry". @UN_CFS @WFPChief If rising cost of fertilisers' is not resolved in the next month or two, food production next year will be affected, warned @MaximoTorero, chief economist of @FAO. #foodsystems #CFS50 #hunger #farming #agriculture

Many people more eloquent than me have responded to this tweet, but since I’m a journalist myself + Burmese, female & NOT white, I feel I should point out to Clarissa why some of us have an issue with her trip & respond to this tone-deaf tweet. (THREAD) #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar I wasn’t part of crowd that thought you/CNN would side with junta, even if trip was arranged by a lobbyist who launders the reputation some of world’s worst human rights abusers (Mugabe, Sudan’s army). Both you & CNN have reputation to protect & I expected you to be balanced. (2)

First off - preamble. I don’t get into twitter arguments because they are a waste of my precious time. We aren’t changing each other's minds by slinging 140-word sentences to each other. But I’ve been dragged into something & feel I must respond. (Thread) #WhatsHappeninglnMyanmar Personally, as a Bamar Buddhist, I don’t give a crap about someone’s nationality or religion as long as what they say makes sense. How narrow-minded does one have to be to discard what someone’s saying because they’re not the "right" nationality or race? (1)

1. I did this y’day on #illegality of #Myanmarcoup & why elected MPs are legal representatives of Myanmar people. Just seen this notice in y'day's Global New Light of Myanmar:- gnlm.com.mm/announcement-o…. Yet another effort by junta to gaslight people. Let me tell you why. (THREAD) A day after coup so-called State Administrative Council issued order purporting to appoint new UEC irrawaddy.com/elections/myan… Will explain why this ‘new’ UEC not only invalidly appointed but also does not have legal power to do things like invalidating letters of accreditation (2)

A thread on #Myanmarcoup & legal aspects. As we know, the army stayed a coup the morning a new Parliament was set to convene on Feb 1. They released a statement announcing a one year state of emergency (SOE) (THREAD) The document was signed by VP ex-General Myint Swe, as ‘Acting President’. The SOE was declared under sections 417 and 418 of the constitution drafted by the military #Myanmarcoup #Myanmar #Burma (2)
