#Egypt is building new Singapore as its newest capital.

Thread: (Updated) ⚡🇪🇬

For more than 1050 years #Cairo has served as Egypt's capital.
But since 2016 a brand-new city has been constructing to serve as the new one. The New Administrative Capital (NAC) is its name.

It was also reported to be named "Wedian" (Arabic plural for Wadi/ Valley). NAC is located 45km east of #Cairo on 700 sq km total area (equivalent to the size of 🇸🇬) that would have a population of 6-7 million.

Coordinates: 30°01'39"N 31°45'54"E

A joint venture company is managing the project, containing the following key departments:

- New Urban Communities Authority NUCA (Ministry of Housing)
- National Service Project Organization NSPO (Armed Forces)
- Armed Forces National Lands Projects Agency.

The major reason for the new capital city is to relieve congestion in #Cairo, which is already one of the world's most crowded cities, and it is growing rapidly. Greater Cairo’s population is set to grow from 18 million people to 40 million people by 2050.

The city includes:

Al Masa Hotel New Capital
Central Park (8 km)
Green River, 35 km long
Expo City
Medical city
Sports city
Zaha Park New Capital
Artificial lakes
Educational institutions
Knowledge City
Disneyland
Churches and mosques
Technology and innovation park
Energy farms

Al Masa Hotel was the first project to be completed in the New Administrative Capital (Inaugurated in October 2017). It's an iconic commercial development, considered to be the major business & destined hub in the new city.

Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque (the 2nd largest in Egypt, the 1st is being constructed in NAC also) and The Cathedral of the Nativity (the largest church in the Middle East) were both inaugurated on 6 January 2019.

It was last year when President al-Sisi inaugurated #Egypt's largest church and mosque in the NAC. Nevertheless, currently a larger mosque (Egypt's Grand Mosque) is being constructed by The Arab Contractors. Situated near The People's Sq with $50m estimated cost.

The People's Square in the Government District of NAC is currently being constructed. It's planned to hold #Egyptian Armed Forces parades, sth that was stopped after Sadat's assassination in 1981.

The People's Square, the City Plaza, Zodiac Tower , the Open Theater, and the Crystal Pyramid.

It wasn't just King #Ramses II who considered the Sun to illuminate over his statue at Aswan's Abu Simbel Temple.

The Government Administrative District:

Intended to house 29 ministries, the cabinet, the parlement, And other state institutions.

Around 50k state employees are planned to be relocated in the first phase.

#Egypt's Ministry of Defense is another story of course, representing the Army's role in the country. 🛑🇪🇬
The #Octagon complex looks like an alien 👽 base from space as some observers described! @Aviation_Intel
It's an extremely large, elaborate, and highly unique installation.

The #Octagon is designed to house command apparatus of the #Egyptian Armed Forces' (4) branches: the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Air Defense Forces along with its (8) Agencies and Departments.

Worth noting that the overall plan for #Egypt's #Octagon in the NAC is more than the defense military complex. It also includes an air base, housing, and many others to be revealed in the future.

The cost of construction the gigantic #Egypt's #Octagon is unknown. Though by analysing the cost of the two mosques previously mentioned, Al Masa hotels in NAC and New Al-Alamin (properties of the Army) we can easily say that $100s of millions have been allocated to this project.

The New Administrative #Capital’s Central Business District:

The project is 1.71 million square meter. It includes 20 towers, which would be a great civilization shift in the region with constructing the tallest building in #Africa, which will be up to 385 meters high.

Another project is being considered, which is to build the tallest structure in the world. sth that would be #Egypt's new landmark

#Oblisco Capitale is planned to be built within NAC. The tower is inspired by Ancient Egyptian architectural design.

#China’s construction firm CSCEC is responsible for delivering 20 housing towers at the Central Business District (CBD) by mid-2021 including the Iconic Tower (#Africa’s tallest building)

📺

One of the major companies responsible for designing, planning, and supervision of construction for various project components in the NAC/CBD is Dar. Most prominent among those is the Iconic Tower.

One of the "two" new #Presidential Palaces currently being constructed is located in the NAC. It's almost indescribable when talking about how big and luxurious it is.

Pharaonic style with 50k m2 area designated for the #Palace (10× The White House) and 2.50m m2 total area.💰👑

Some might argue about the authenticity of the data regarding the total area. Nevertheless, the satellite shows several massive luxurious buildings in the perimeter as the arrows indicate. Also, notice the several buildings on both sides serving the presidency.

When public frustration arose after knowing that many Presidential palaces and residents are being constructed, #Sisi said: “Yes, we have built palaces and will build more but not for myself. I’m working to build a new Egypt.”

#Egypt already contains all of these palaces👇:

Sisi's statement can be watched here:

The statement came after a building contractor (currently living in exile), who worked under army contracts, had accused #Sisi of corruption and wasting public funds. That sparked some protests on 20/9/2019 which rustled in arresting 4000+ #Egyptians.

In 2018, it was announced that #Egypt was to invest 12B EG on the 1st phase of implementing the #Knowledge_City, being established on a 211-acre area as a hub for research and innovation centers specialized in advanced technologies similar to the #Silicon Valley in the US.

It is envisaged that the Knowledge City will cater to #Egypt’s growing demand for a higher education system that meets international standards. It will gather branches of foreign universities as well as research, and innovation entrepreneurship centres along with a science park.

The 1st phase is due to be inaugurated next year. includes 4 buildings: a specialized ICT university, a training building incl. the branches of both the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and the Information Technology Institute (ITI) affiliated to the Ministry of MCIT

The KC was divided to main sectors to reach the City's vision and its goals:

University
School
Industrial Incubators
Technical Incubators
Workshops
Labs
Institutes
Conference Center
Residential
Dorms
Down Town
Hotel
Solar Fields
Administration
Extension
Sports area
Mall
..

The world’s largest City for #Culture and #Arts is also being established, occupying an area of 130 feddans, the project is part of an innovative vision to support arts.

The city will host the largest opera house in the Middle East, its main hall will accommodate 2,150 persons.

The city also hosts a wax museum, theaters, exhibition halls, libraries, and galleries for traditional n contemporary arts in the fields of music, painting, sculpture and handicrafts.

The art spaces will be rented to galleries and artists who r willing to showcase their artworks

Nevertheless, some critics maintain that the #Egyptian government should not only focus on establishing well-designed buildings but rather devise a plan to attract artists to the city and organize world-class performances.
