I’ve been in that boat as a hiring manager. I’ll share my story from SAP Concur to help shed some (positive) light on the situation, @daveaglick.

#remotework #culture

1/13
When our group was beginning to grow, we knew we needed to foster a remote culture to succeed over time. But the group was young and most of us were new to the company. Only a few folks had experience with distributed teams, and none of us had felt truly successful with it.

2/13
We wanted a sustainable approach for our remote culture, and that meant we needed to be confident that we could help remote folks succeed. I didn’t want our group’s shortcomings to reflect poorly on a remote engineer or lead them to be unhappy or isolated (and leave).

Here’s a mash up of some of the best lines of the day...

✅How can you get it very right, right up to the point you get it badly wrong?❌

#DanceFormsOfIndia
#Culture
#ArtAndTraditions
Dance in India is much more than mere body movements. From the ancient times, the classical dance forms are considered as a discipline and a way to devote yourself to the God through art.
India has many dances coming from every state but only six forms of the classical dances are recognised on a national level. They are Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Manipuri, Kuchipudi and Odissi. Their origin can be traced back to ancient times.
The text related to the origin of dance in India can be found in Natya Shastra, which was written by the sage Bharata and dates back to the 2nd century AD. In this text, the creation of dance is credited to Lord Brahma, who takes its knowledge from the four Vedas.

What I picked up from our @stgeorgesbpool talk from @tombennett71 👇

(For you @jwalms93)
It's important we have a reason for what we are doing

Good behaviour improves EVERY outcome imaginable....academic...wellbeing...mental health...vocational opportunity.
For many students, school is an ark.

Kids often HATE inspirational assemblies...climbing a mountain....etc. But where wre the tools to get them there.

5am thoughts: One of the challenges for men in #leadership positions in #tech who want to increase #inclusion and #diversity in our orgs, is that first we need to first recognize our own #privilege before knowing what conscious actions to take in our orgs & company-wide... 1/14
First, credit to my colleague @bjohnso5y. Her post on how to be a better #ally for #womenintech emphasized the mechanism of #recognition (e.g. crediting women for their ideas in public spaces). The goal of better #allyship inspired this thread... 2/14

In the sphere of political debate, you’ll often hear white people (especially men) arguing they don’t have privilege and don’t get special treatment. "Everything’s a meritocracy!" "Nobody 'gave' me anything!" - Nothing to see here, move along… 3/14

As a #trauma researcher I often wonder why the fact that violence is squarely within the repertoire of normal human behavior is absent from the conversation among #academics and #culture observers more broadly. #whyisthat
Something deservedly undesirable in many contemporary contexts is not, as a result, abnormal.

Instead, I’d argue violence is often a maladaptive problem solving or #emotion regulation strategy.
But by dismissing violence as somehow aberrant, we make little progress in understanding root causes or intervening effectively.

Thread 13: Saudi food
What do Saudi eat? I am going to write about traditional Saudi dishes that our ancestors used to eat!
2. Nowadays, Saudis prefer the traditional food because it is healthies than the new dishes full of artificial items!
3. Mainly Saudis counted on dates, camel milk, and ghee with some wheat floor and meat to make their dishes!

Our first panel at the #GlobeWomenPower symposium is about #Women, #Culture and #Art 🎭

We are very lucky to have @soulsister8, @ClairevkVan, @mogster and @Winsome_Pinnock reflecting on themes of #leadership, guided by our chair Professor Charlotte Scott.
We first ask - what does #leadership mean to you?

See the responses from our panel below - and share your own answer too!
For @soulsister8 leadership is multilayered - it's a strong element of who we are as humans. It's more a human expression than a business term, although we bring who we are to the workplace...

... sometimes solving one problem begets another. #Igbo culture most laudably seems to be pushed by those in diaspora, as seen on the social media. However, 90% of what is shown is mainly #masquerading and #dances. Very beautiful. Moreover, there is need to emphasis other aspects
Like marriage, farming, food, poetry, arts & crafts, industry, commerce, architecture etc. There has been a great awakening; most nostalgia and sometimes, a relapse because one can't compete with global trends. Idolatry is on the increase pitched unto 'say' Omenala, our #culture.
African Traditional #Religion (ATR) especially as practiced by ndi Igbo was just a tip of the iceberg about their culture. It was the culture of a typical Igbo person not to go hungry, as such manliness, was measured by the number of yam tubers one had in his barn and other #farm

Today is #WorldKidneyDay, so here is a thread about living on #dialysis & #OrganDonation. My name is Belinda Otas. I’m #African. I’m #Nigerian. I'm #Benin. I’m #British & I’m #Black. Beyond the nationalities or passports with my name, I also believe in our shared humanity.
I was 16, when I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF.) I had no idea what was happening to me because at the time, it made no sense. However, I remember the pain of that period like noonday. I lived on dialysis until i was 22. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth
It took over my teenage years. I don’t remember having much of a life as a teenager because dialysis was 3x a week & every session was 4hrs. Add the time it takes to recover from being exhausted by the process, my day was pretty much over. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth

This #BIWisdom Friday I'd like to explore concepts of a #DataCulture. What do *you* think it is? How is it sustained by #Success and #Value? Does support from #BILeadership with a #CDO help? How important are the #Data #skills (maybe especially Literacy)? Join is at 1PM EST
Just a few minutes until this week's #BIWisdom. Join us to discuss #Data #culture . What might it be, how do you use it, how can you value it, or know if it is working.
Happy #BIWisdom to us all. I hope everyone had a fine week.

A leader in #Igbo land must be very careful. They recognise that the line between sanity & insanity is very thin. Once one starts chorusing ijọm instead of ijọ́m, s/he is on his or her own. Like the said madman casting nothing over the bridge shouting, "13,13, 13..." The bridge
having hung over a deep turbulent river, people gathered to wonder what 13th bawl it could've been. So, a more inquisitive one went closer to see. At once, the madman scooped, plunged him over and began to sing, "14, 14..."

The Igbos know fleeing away, isn't cowardice in any way
Onye Igbo maara na ọhịa a hụrụ ozu nza abụọ na ihe na-egbu nwa nza, nọ na ya.

He doesn't sit out with insanity. He doesn't take counsel of psychopaths. Once a sound mind, crosses over to the other side of reasoning, the rest

So many of these stories are so sad & paint a bleak portrait of UK culture of infant feeding, with poor support for #breastfeeding (so few successes) & awful stigmatization. The pivotal question is *why* this is - something I saw little attention to in the linked article.
UK women are not fundamentally different from nearby others who have much higher #breastfeeding rates. It is not women "failing" - these are not issues of #individualresponsibility. They are matters of #structures & #culture that facilitate or hinder #breastfeeding.
True support requires not simply telling people what to do, but enabling, supporting, and facilitating. That means committing resources (financial & social) to making change. Supporting families in making an informed decision, and then supporting them throughout.
