"We’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."

“One thing I think we’re learning epidemiologically is that that population has a very high level of immune resistance, of immunity, and resilience against 🦠an influenza🦠 of this nature,”

"This is a flu. This is like a flu, (...) It's a little like a regular flu that we have flu shots for. And we'll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner."

"Alberta is helping to take the lead on trials for potential #COVID19 medications, like #Hydroxychloroquine."

"Funding for the trial will include a $286,000 grant from the [Kenney] government."

This weekend, Kenney sent out an Easter message, talking about how it is a time of "renewal and of life conquering death."

Alberta had officially reached 1998 covid deaths last time I checked, and will likely have passed the 2K mark by the next update.

Even @CMOH_Alberta got on the "happy Easter" bandwagon as cases were on the rise... 🤦

"President Trump on Monday incorrectly claimed at a campaign rally that #Covid19 'affects virtually nobody' younger than 18, again downplaying the extent of the pandemic..."

“The average age of death from COVID in Alberta is 83, and I’ll remind the house that the average life expectancy in the province is 82.”

"The average age of people who succumb to COVID-19 is 83. Alberta’s average life expectancy is 82."

--Jason Kenney. May 28, 2020.

But we knew all along that younger people could catch and transmit the disease.

"We would like to see schools open. We want to see the economy open (...) I would like to see the schools open -- open 100%."

“I don’t think it is in the interest of kids to keep the schools closed for another year. (...) So that’s why we are moving forward with safe reopening of the schools."

--Jason Kenney. July 29, 2020.

But we've known all along that covid can be spread among children. We know that children catch #COVID19 because @SOSAlberta has been tracking outbreaks.

And the variants have been even more contagious.

We've known all along that children can catch covid19.

"School aged children now make up more than 20% of COVID cases in Alberta"

Jason Kenney's policies have allowed the pandemic to infect and harm our kids.

The kinds of policies that IDU Conservatives like Kenney have passed had led to tweets like this one, which while not from someone in Alberta, absolutely applies to the situation in Alberta where public schools are underfunded so we can subsidize private.

A few commenters have pointed out that Kenney's claim "We have successfully contained the more contagious variants" had some real "Mission Accomplished" energy.

@jerrymacgp @AreYou4reaI @EtownDre @GiancarloZenari, I see you. 👀

And I agree.

In this thread I'm comparing the patterns of Kenney's government and behaviour to Trump, moreso than Bush.

I've discussed before how 'Berta has it's own MAGA hat. Well, it's more of a sweatshirt. #ableg #cdnpoli #CanadaPACtion.

The fact is that throughout the pandemic Jason Kenney has downplayed the seriousness of the disease, comparing it to influenza, committing $286k to researching a conspiracy cure popularized by Qanon.

Kenney's own #UCP MLAs, @AngelaPittAB & @Drew__Barnes joined an "anti-lockdown" group, but quite the group after after the group's founder, @randyhillier compared measures to slow the spread of coronavirus to Nazi Germany.

This gaff by @AngelaPittAB & @Drew__Barnes would almost be funny if there wasn't a precedent already set by the anti-lockdown groups already operating in Alberta, terrorizing people with their tiki-torches and hate speech.

Back in 2014, Artur Pawlowski of Calgary's so-called Street Church, [&] leader of the annual March for Jesus attended several times in his political career by Ric McIver, said McIver is the best man to preserve "traditional Alberta values."

While there lots of examples of #UCP MLAs being terrible people, this thread is about Jason Kenney and his Trumpish management of the pandemic.

So far in their government Jason Kenney has attacked basically any group that isn’t oil & gas, or corporate executives.

Some say this is incompetence, but it becomes more clear that the cruelty is the point.

The cruelty is the point.

theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

For his part, Kenney has attacked just about every group that can be conceived of (except his donors🤑)

From healthcare workers to teachers, FNs, AISH, children, women, & families. Kenney has made an enemy of them all.

sprawlcalgary.com/jason-kenneys-…

The elderly residents of LTC homes have suffered deeply at the hands of Jason Kenney and his policies.

Perhaps Kenney will do a better job protecting LTC homes?

“Alberta LTC group lobby government for bill to protect against COVID-19 lawsuits”

But why let so many die?

Remember, dear readers, that #DisasterCapitalism requires a disaster in order to implement #ShockDoctrine policies.

The pandemic is not being “mismanaged.” It is being used as a tool to enact neoliberal and religious reforms.

IDU Conservatives like Trump and Kenney lied and lied and lied about the dangers of covid-19.

Under the cover of the pandemic they passed swaths of neo-liberal, pro-corporation, anti-labour reforms anywhere they were in power.

#cdnpoli #MountainsNotMines

I could keep making comparisons between Trump and Kenney as representatives of the IDU neoliberal ideology they serve... but by now you get the picture.

A difference is that Trump’s lies were collected and collated and put on display.

cnn.com/interactive/20…

Unfortunately, no one has created a well visualized database of all of Kenney’s lies, yet.

I hope some journalists do.

My collection of memes is only so effective.

We need facts debunking the #UCP’s lies to reach the front page.

It's important to remember that @bailrs has been keeping track of #UCP Impacts And Decisions.

I'll end this thread here.

If you found it informative, you may also appreciate a deep dive into the #UCP's view of education--an 80 tweet thread.
