What is the impact of #LPGPriceHike on household budgets?
An average #Indian household needs to spend a significant share of their overall monthly expenditure for exclusive #LPG use — 9.3% in #rural areas & 7.1% in #urban areas.
What are the other barriers to #LPG access?
➡️Absence of home delivery of LPG refills or delayed delivery is another deterrent to regular LPG use.
➡️Only half of the #rural LPG users get their refills home delivered.
Overall, the use of #LPG as the primary #cookingfuel increased from 28.5% in 2011 to 71% in 2020. LPG coverage and its use as a primary cooking fuel should be particularly improved in the #rural areas of #Bihar, #Jharkhand, #MadhyaPradesh, #Odisha & #WestBengal.
How can India ensure sustained #LPG use?
➡️Expand #LPG connections under PMUY 2.0
➡️Provide targeted subsidies to make LPG consumption affordable
➡️Incentivise #rural distributors
➡️Link LPG programmes to social assistance or rural development schemes
