We don't advocate turning a blind eye to global tectonics like #Covid, the "Freedom Convoy," the #UkraineInvasion & whatever's next. But this is the #ClimateEra. Expect more mayhem not less. We need to be able to walk, chew gum & save the world at the same time. So let's do it /2

In March the Hub's hitting up some of the most critical pieces of the #ClimateEmergency. We start by joining @350Canada & @FFFCalgary on the March 12 #DayOfAction for a #JustTransition, which is a foundational necessity for Alberta moving forward /3 350.org/just-transitio… #yyc

When people don't see a future for themselves they become vulnerable to a growing populist movement looking to twist their perfectly reasonable fears into anger & hate. The ONLY fix is a properly designed #JustTransition leaving no Albertans behind /4 #DayOfAction @350Canada #yyc

@350Canada A global SHIFT that doesn't include #JustTransition for #BIPOC, youth, economically disadvantaged & transitioning industry workers sets itself up for failure. Cross cultural buy-in is needed. Historically under-represented voices need seats at the table more than ever /6 #yyc

@SethDKlein @FFFCalgary Ultimately when you talk #JustTransition for Canada's youth you're really talking about enabling our next generation to credibly take up & win the most important challenge in all of human history. If we give them the tools they'll end up surprising us, guaranteed. /9 @FFFCalgary

@SethDKlein @FFFCalgary The flip side of a #JustTransition for Canada's youth is we need to position them for that win, which means we have to *really* start doing *our* part: stop making things worse & their jobs harder. We're not doing that yet. Not fast enough. Not fair enough. Not even close. /10

@SethDKlein @FFFCalgary Good news is we know what we have to do. The top climate scientists across the globe are saying we don't have much to wait for with the tech. It's a political solution which means at its essence it's a people solution. We have to choose to do the right thing & make it happen. /11

@SethDKlein @FFFCalgary A #JustTransition is a 4 legged stool that collapses without each of its legs. If we don't create space for each of the historically under-represented communities we won't have system-wide buy-in. The whole effort devolves. We can't afford to fail any longer. This HAS to work /12

@SethDKlein @FFFCalgary Historically what happens to workers & dependant communities from an industry that gets replaced by technological advances or cultural transitions is they're left to fend for themselves. An enormous inexorable transition is upon us. Will we leave our fellow Albertans behind? /13

When you remove the politics from it Alberta's oil/gas workers want what everybody else wants: to know their futures are secured & that they can build a life & provide for their loved ones. Polling shows a strong majority are seeing the writing on the wall & want steps taken. /14

So we can create a #JustTransition for impacted industry workers because it's the right thing to do or because it's the prosperous thing to do. This video from @politicalham is yet another important reason why we can't afford *not* to do it. /17

@politicalham @350Canada Talking about listening to the folks that already know the answers, #Indigenous cultures have been telling us for 100s of years we need to establish a more sane & healthier relationship with nature & the world around us. It's WAY past time we listened. /19
