So @NevilleSouthall has been deservedly trending recently. I'd like to share a short story on how we went out of his way brilliantly to treat a young boy (me) who adored him.
Nev was my hero growing up. For my 11th Birthday, my cousin sent him a card to sign for me care of Everton. As my birthday's in June, he didn't get it till he came back in for pre-season training.
Bear in mind I had absolutely no idea my cousin had sent the card. For weeks, every time I came home, my mum was telling me Neville Southall had called again for me. I was like 'yeah sure mum. Chinny reckon'. Well you would wouldn't you.
In the end he got in touch with my cousin and arranged for me to meet his dad in the supporters club. I still thought they were winding me up. Turns out, not only had Nev signed the card, he took the time to write me a letter and gave me a pair of his gloves.
He was a top flight footballer that went out out of his way for an 11 year old lad who worshipped him and he didn't want to disappoint him.
